Most people found doom 3 disappointing in terms of gameplay, I enjoyed it (atmosphere was great and I thought beutruger was cool) but I did start to get bored with the gameplay after the hell level but anyway I brought the expansion pack I must say I very disapointed
Even though the storyline was basic in doom 3 I still liked it but ROE storyline was pretty pointless and silly; Elizabeth, despite being Betruger's right-hand lady, has no impact at all, the artifact is bogus, and the ending was bloody ridiculous. Spoilers
Hell made the Artifact to counter the Soul Cube, assumably AFTER the soulcube was invented and sealed the gates of hell- so, how did it end up being locked inside the vaults of the ancient civilisation then???
And when Betruger pins the marine down and demands the return of the artifact, the marine shoves it in Betruger's mouth, which KILLS HIM???
HIS own artifact, which gives the owner super powers, which was given to him per his request, kills him using an attack that I could never use in the rest of the game EVER!
And why would he have to ask for it back anyway? Couldn't he just stomp the poor guy and take it off him?
And the "Wake up marine, it's me" part was a pure 'WTF' moment then and there!
The scare factor in doom 3 weared off after while but this game is not scary what so ever. The end boss was pretty cool but the others were frustating
The grabber was no fun- especially compared to the manipulator and annoying because it was ONLY good for imps and vulgars- not for picking stuff up and throwing it (rarely does any real damage- and holds the object so far forward you rarely have enough ROOM to throw it- instead of the enemy getting between yourself and the object).
I'm very disappointed with ROE, I just hope aftermath is a better expansion pack
On a different note I was looking for tips to beat one of particular frustating bosses on gamefaqs and I found this review of ROE

I couldn't resist but post the link of planet doom

The hl2 fans bashing is bit over the top but one person says
"BTW: didnt D3 get more sales than hl2 "
Out of curiousity is that true or does nobody know?
