I've been playing the game for the past 2 hours and i've been playing Gulf of Oman and other maps. I have everything on High except for textures which is at Medium (Same settings as the demo) but for some reason the game runs like crap. I mean, i play on the same servers i played on the demo (Internode) and with the same amount of players and same settings, but it just runs like utter shit. In the demo i could play the game with 4xAA and there would only be slight slow downs every now and then but this just sucks.

P4 2.4GHZ
768mb
6800 GT

Like i said, i use the same settings as the demo and get worse frame rate, so i doubt its my specs or settings. Something's amiss here.

Is it just bad FPS that you're getting, or are you getting a weird lag-like effect every few seconds?

Yeah, when I put 4xAA on I got a weird stuttering issue. There weren't any major slow downs just stuttering ( like lag actually ). Have you been playing on the 64 player maps? It might be the larger maps that are responsible for the difference in performance.

Anyway, I took off AA and the problem was reduced quite a lot. I also have a 6800GT btw.

I dont have AA on though, thats the thing. Might try turning down the settings further and if that doesnt fix it i'll just return it.

put lighting on medium, the rest is fine
Lighting on high kills even high end PCs. no idea why, there is no visual difference between the two, besides abhorent framerates with it on high.

I have the latest drivers installed and all. I turned the lighting down to medium along with everything else and i tried playing the game then and there was no difference. Ping was fine at 38, 32 player server on a small map.

I'm returning this. I've spent 2 and half hours playing the game with these problems, and i before i bought the game i was thinking this would be different then DC but isn't. Like i've been thinking all along its just DC with squads. I'm getting a WoW game card instead and getting my money back. Thanks for the help anyway guys.

eek, i plan on getting it today, hope i dont have these troubles.

Got the latest nVidia drivers installed?

latest driver 77.72 is super shit for many games and DVD movies.

the best driver for 99% of games and DVDs colour quality is 77.30

stik with 77.30

i noticed with the full version that the levels seem to load that bit quicker and my computer doesn't act as much as a whore as it used to when i quit

just got it, played 2 sp maps, ran fine, 1st mp game i played, stutter, stutter, stutter, crash to desktop. Seems to be as buggy as the demo.

Just got it. And my DVD Drive doesn't work. Doesn't read any discs. What great ****ing timing. I love it.

I got that on the day Halflife 2 arrived, i was so angry. I ended up selling my boxed copy for £2 profit and buying off steam. I have a new drive now, which you may need. Try some other dvds, e.g. films or anything.

I'm still not sure what to do, someone convince me to buy Battlefield 2 and not Tekken 5. I played with you guys loads on the demo, is it better or worse now?

It doesn't play most things, but occasionly it'll work. In anger I took it out, heard something shaking and proceeded to knock the shit out of it. It almost worked, it got to the last 10% or so before buggering up. I've got the game, but I'll have to wait till Monday/Tuesday for my new drive. Fan-****ing-tastic.

Erm, actually - I have no idea :p

EDIT - Ah well, good news :) After a big ol' whine at my dad, he finally cracked and let me nick his DVD drive. :)

Actually, Lighting on high puts normal maps on a few other things than character models - vehicles, first person arms etc. It doesn't look hugely different when set to Medium, but I always like looking at the normal maps on my arm when I turn around. Guess I'll have to sacrifice it, since I'm getting some fairly bad FPS on certain maps :/

Actually, does anyone know which setting it is to reduce the quality of trees and stuff, because I think that's what's really impacting my FPS.

I think all that lag and stuttering in MP is just bad net code or swamped servers. I hope they get this sorted out because it will kill the game if people can't even get a 32 player game to run smoothly. There's no excuse for this - the whole point of the game is MP!

just played a few more rounds , the game is playing worse than the demo for me, my fps plummets even on lowered settings, no probs with sp fps, just mp.

geometry is what changes trees... along with everything else.

and I was wrong about lighting... I have mine on high and it's fine..

the thing that kills it is having textures on high. for some reason it doesn't cull what is unseen (think of looking toward the meat of the map and rendering the whole scene).. at least that's what it feels like, because you can turn around and face say backwards away from the geometry (out towards the vacant hills on oilfield for example) and it runs at 60fps... so yeah.
