I got me a Gigabyte 6800gt in November, and the idle gradually increased untill i was idling just under 70C, and getting artifact issues. So I RMA'd it. When I get my replacement I am still not sure that the problem won't be there- due to what ive been hearing about the chipset-heatsink contact (due to the shitty thermal tape they use and the lack of pressure on the chip from the heatsink).
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if it can be fixed WITHOUT voiding the warranty. This thing looks like it should work really well, but doesnt really seem to.

btw, my case temp (35C) isnt the source of the problem, and even though ive got a crap psu, i'm pretty sure that doesn't cause high temps.

Any ideas?

Dust? Cables killing airflow? Not sure...

what's the recommended wattage for the psu to run a 6800? i remember it being pretty high, although i have no idea if it could cause issues if you're PSU isn't meaty enough then it may cause unexpected problems:)

I would agree with Asus on that one, I wouldn't have thought that a crap PSU would cause the card to become gradually hotter at idle temperatures, it sounds like a dust issue, since it is like a build up of the temperature. Do you clean your pc at all, if not, get the little thin nozzle on your hoover and carefully clean the inside of the case and especially the heatsink fan on the card. BTW, what CPU are you using and what temps are you getting at idle, just out of interest.

amd 64 3200+ and i get around 33C idle and under load never more than 50C.

My case isn't dusty- and seeing as everything is so new dust build up is unlikely.

I'd just use some Arctic Silver to replace that poor grease/pad. ;)
FYI mine is at 60c right now while I play WoW. :p

true i might do that- i was just trying to see if anyone else could fix the problem without voiding the warranty- thanks anyway guys
