I just bought 2 new fans and it took me 10 minutes to install the damn things because the pins kept sliding out of the molex connectors. 4-pin molex connectors continue to be the bane building PCs. :flame:

im not sure i understand what you had trouble with. they haven't caused me trouble.

Oh yeah...hate those that pop out. Especially when it is not all the way out but just half way. Just enough to make your stuff not work and you wonder what the hell is going on.

Never had an issue here. Sure your not buying second rate components? Pins sliding out sounds really dodgy is all.

Nah, it can happen with any standard 4-pin molex.

Yeah I've had pins come out of Molex connectors. Who knows maybe the SATA power connectors will become more widespread.

Out of the 6 computers ive built, ive never had that problem. So me and 4-pin molex are still homies.

I've built many PC's over the years... Probably a half dozen and more. And I've switched parts around countless more times.

I have never had this problem. The only problem I have with 4-pin molex cables is that they can sometimes be too hard to get out. So much so that I'm worried of damaging the device it's plugged into as I rock it back and forth trying to get it out, since some of the parts it's connected to feel kind of flimsy.

So my only complaint? They've been too tight, not pins sliding out.

That's why all of my fans are the 3-pin fans. I hate them molex connecting fans and changed the four 120mm fans Antec 900 comes with and bought four red-led, 3-pin fans. I also love Asus MB because of the countless 3-pin MB connectors.

For me a pin usually starts to get loose when the wire is slightly bent so it makes the pin inside crooked so it misses the hole and gets pushed out as I'm putting them together. Or the 4 metal flaps that stick out get pushed flush with the pin and that lets it slide out.

I've never had a problem with the 4-pins, though they are often hard to disconnect. That's why I love SATA.

i hate molex plugs/connectors/sockets with a passion. i recall one time one of the four pins on the hard drives power connector actually snapped off because the metal sockets in the molex plug were flapping about and moving like they always do inside the plastic their plastic housing.

anyway to get the hard drive working so i could get the data off i jammed a metal pin through the back end of the molex plug where the cables go in, straight through the plastic housing and into the snapped off socket on the hard drive.

worked fine! so long as you didnt move it :)

What bugs me more is when Im hooking molex connectors together in serial (for fans or whatever) and the connectors wiggle around just enough that you cant plug them together, and you have to try to hold the wires, the connector, and the other connector while plugging it all together...
