Sprained my ankle a week ago today and still can't put much weight on it without alot of pain. It's a little swollen still and there is some bruising, but I can rotate it in all directions without too much pain. Haven't been to the doc yet (no medical ins.), and would prefer to just let it heal on its own without shelling out a grand or more for someone to tell me to immobilize it and take some Ibuprofen lol.

Anyone had a sprain like this? what did you end up having to do and how long did it take?

The worst thing I"ve done is fell on a glass and had a giant gaping hole in my thigh....that took stitches. Though I've never sprained an ancle.

Never. I've got ankles of steel. With all the hiking and soccer ball ankle wisting I do to them I've never acctually sprained it badly.

How did you sprain it?

jumping into a large hole in the ground where a pool was going to be, my foot caught the gunite hose (thing that shoots concrete) and slid sideways, so I basically landed on my foot sideways. Hurt like a bitch for a good 5 mins, then swelled up and I couldn't put any pressure on it, had to hop to my car that was parked a 1/4 mi away, it sucked lol.

It should be strapped, if you have something tight to put round it to hold it one position. The movement will only increase the time for it to heal. Yeah and obviously keep weight of it as much as you can. I wouldn't expect extreme pain to last past 9/10 days. Bruising as well as swelling?

Oh man, I know just about everything there is to know about sprained ankles.

My first one was in seventh grade, when I tried to ollie five stairs, and managed to land with my right ankle twisted and completely folded. It took me out for about half a year. Since then (I'm seventeen now) I've had a menagerie of ankle-related injuries. Some wear off in a few hours. Some have taken me out for months. In fact, my ankle is permanantly swollen thanks to all the damage. But really, there's no reason to worry. You absolutely don't need a doctor for it, unless you suspect it's fractured (which I seriously doubt). All you need is to keep it cold and elevated for about a day, and then (if it still feels wonky) use an ankle brace/wrap. You can usually find 'em for cheap at pharmacies.

So yeah, don't worry.

Ive only had a minor sprain. Swelled up and was gone in about a week.

My foot got caught in the gears of a roundabout when I slipped once. It was a soft padded floor you get on play-parks and it had been raining. I was running and then...well, whooosh. My foot slided underneath it and crunch Hurt like all kinds of demon hell.

I'm pretty sure I did in New Hampshire. Like, sprained really bad. I never went to the doctor or anything and it eventually stopped hurting. That was a few years ago.

Though, I think my foot is kinda funky now. Doesn't look right when I stand up straight.

Chew your foot off. It's what you should do for your survival.

Or was that "what you should do when your foot is stuck in a bear-trap"?

lol, not sure how much easier it would be to walk on a nub either. :cheese:

just last month i rolled my ankle and tore all the ligaments in it, then ran on it for about 20 minutes, which i dont think helped at all(was drunk at the time). I went to the doctor since it was free, he just said wear an ankle support/strap for a week or so, and it would take about 6 weeks to heal.

I was playing soccer and turned over on my ankle kinda bad.

It doesn't sound anywhere near as bad as yours though, I was fine in a few days.

When I was younger I sprained my ankle to many times to count, fruit booting and skateboarding I can thank for that. Now my ankles are a pain when walking long distances.

I once sprained my ankle 3 times in 6 weeks. In the exact same place, every time :(
