I noticed there are some talented drawers in this section of the site and was wondering if anyone fancied doing some concept art?
The mod in question is Sourceball and its website is www.sourceball.com

The kind of thing you'll be concentrating is models and maps. So if you're interested, head on over to the team applications section on the forum

this should be in the help wanted section, and giving more info than just a url to a random mod.

I was wanting to keep it discrete see? I wanted to post in here simply because it might appeal to some talented drawer that only frequents this part of the site. Members of the team have made a proper advertising template and everything, but as an artist you must be able to appreciate that I'm simply trying to put the word about quitely and not make a big song and dance about it.

If you were wanting to keep it quiet, wouldn't just PMing the artists in the showcase section be the best bet? :D Since really thats the purpose of it, to showcase the best artists on the forum so people hunting for talent don't have to trawl through a thousand MS paint and Garrysmod screenshot threads to find the talented ones.

hehe awww i didn't mean it to sound so bad lol *hides* No I just meant, well.. I meant.. well you know what I mean lol, there's a lot of pretty naff stuff and the good threads usually drop to the bottom cause of random low quality posts that crop up, so the talented people end up losing out and barely even getting their threads noticed in some cases.

hehe and yeah, more info definately important. Oh and other examples already done on the mod would be helpful too, so they know what kind of styles to go for.

Thanks TDE, :) (Duh me!) I'll do that, you see I just had the idea this morning to post here. In future I'll leave it to the guy in charge of doing such things. And I'll see some showcase stuff and get some PMing done.

Man, when I first saw this mod, and saw that desktop picture, I was like HOLY CRAP! SOMETHING ORIGINAL!!

But no. It was the most unoriginal meaning of "SourceBall" I could think of.

What you SHOULD have done was make a mod where you control a ball, ala the way roller mines move. You could put it into the HL2 universe, were you actually control a roller mine, going around obsticles, lots of cool puzzles.. Chasing down citizens, headcrabs, etc.

That would be so AWESOME!!!

But noooooo. Let's copy off of that one UT2003 mod...

:(

I think I might draw some stuff for my made up mod there... Sounds cool... I'm a genius.

oooh! you mean like those old 8bit games? I can't remember the names, Wizball wasn't really one of them, the game was lots of platforms and a difficult to control ball either rolling or bouncing, no real storyline or point to it other than to complete it. Funnily enough I'd love addictive games like that to be done with Source! *pokes vegeta to make one* :D:D:D

Marble madness ?

Dude but no, there WILL be a storyline! You will be a combine ball! It could even be thought of as an expansion to HL2!

Think of all the puzzels and new things you could do, when you are just a little ball. Going through vents, sewers, and other small places people can't normally get into! You could do so much with this idea!!

But I have no modding skills in the coding area... Maybe we can start this though! I can do.. Maps, concepts...

We have GOT to do this.

vegeta.. its sorely tempting to do one like that. but *looks at list of projects he's got to do that stretch on down the street* im not entirely sure I would have the time.. which kinda annoys me cause I would REALLY like to make a game like that ;( (apart from the whole HL2 theme to it) hehe

Ofcourse ofcourse, I am the same way ^_^

But I am definatly going to do some concept arts...

Oh and you'd have to force it into isometric view too, for old times sake :D

hmm, shame someone can't get permission to do escape from the planet of the robot monsters, I loved that game, and the early speccy dan dare ones hehe.

Omg, Fenric, me and my friend are already working on the mod!!!

Turns out, we don't even need to mod anything! It's all in the map!

This is going to be big. Once it gets popular, we can get some coders on the team or whatever.

Weee my first mod. Or should I say our first mod. I hope it doesn't bomb like the other 302035932!

Look mate, the idea did not come from 'That UT2003 mod'. Its kinda an adaptation of the Speedball idea. Marble madness = 8 bit game. Speedball = 8 bit game. I actually like your idea of the roller mine in the HL2 universe and hope you pull it off, but if you do have the time, why not give our mod a deeper look? The team are getting concerned that people who have played deathball think its a direct copy. and its not ;(

how about you and vegeta work on the idea of an old 8bit style game made on source, it would i think be pretty popular, simple but lots of fun, especially with the physics that never really existed back in those days (though there were a couple of simply amazing little speccy games where you could litterally move any object around, blocking doors and getting onto higher area's.) damn I miss my old games :(

*dl's an emulator* ahhhh 8bit physics, eat that source :p

I wouldn't mind applying to work with Vegeta, but I'm really busy. I'm bully fooked. :D

shame, you two seem to be having the same idea's in a round about way. And vegeta, even though I don't often get on with him, knows his 8bit pixel style, so could bring to the game a unique old style game look to it while keeping it in real 3D.

That and two heads are better than one :)

Pixel style eh? How exactly do we pull that off? 0_0
Sounds tough.

Well right now we are making a regular HL2 style version. I have a small scenario set out, and he is almost done with the movement. (Or he is done, I'm not sure)

Once we establish this to work, we will need to get some coders to mod in the camera view and plenty other things.

If I had bother reading my own dev forums. I would have found that we have actually found a concept artist. So I need never have started this thread... but if I hadn't, the question of the month is:
WOULD VEGETA HAVE STARTED HIS COOL MOD??????????
So you owe me Veg, ;) For payment in my services of triggering you to start your cool mod, I require two blue-tinted bottles, a vat of nail varnish, a variable capacitor and an electron gun. After you have packaged those in limited edition pink bubble wrap send them to 735639, Observatory Crest.
:) :)
