Anyone Get ati Voucher for Hl2? sent it in?

if anyone bought a new video card and got a voucher, have you sent it in already? and if you sent it in already have you gotten some sort of confirmation back from ati?

the reason i ask is i sent mine in like 3 months ago and im worried that maybe it got lost along the way and since i already sent my proof of purchase seal (theres only 1 on the box) theres no way for me to send another one in and claim my hl2 in the mail.

I sent mine in too, about two weeks ago. Have heard nothing yet, but I don't imagine I will until the game has gone gold. ATI probably knows better now than to get ahead of themselves where partnerships with Valve are concerned. Know what I mean?

you dont send the voucher in you just copy it and send the copy, but you also need the prrof of purchase seal from the box.

I posted this info in another thread, but when I got mine (9800XT) a few months back and went to th ATI web site for instructions on how to redeem the coupon, it required the purchase receipt (along with the voucher and UPC "proof of purchase" label). I got mine as a gift from one of my vendors and don't have a receipt, so I'm still sitting on my voucher, hoping that I don't need the receipt to be able to download it for free via Steam using the voucher number.

To the guy who has dialup and wants to get their game through Steam, go over to your friend's house and copy all of his Half-life 2 cache stuff on CD's and bring it to your house and put it in the same folders. You're not gonna download that thing on dialup, it would take so damn long lol.

Second, and I hate to break it to you guys, but if you've mailed away to get a boxed copy you won't get it until 4-6 weeks after it has been released. Read the fine print. My advice (and I have a voucher myself) is to just download and hope Valve has included something cool to make up for no box or manual.

i decided to download through steam aswell becuase im not prepared to wait another month or 2.

after you get it through steam cant you just send the voucher (or photocopy) and wait for the actual boxed game? that way youll be playing the game and will (eventually) have an offical "hard copy"

hopefully the game manual should come with the download .. as a PDF file or something

I kinda doubt it, because then your "boxed" version will have an unassociated CDKey, but you will already have a registered copy already associated to your Steam account. Hence you could just let your freind install the box copy on thier machine and use your CD key, and now theres 2 working copies fro the price of one. Valve will have no way of keeping track of what key goes where unless they are physically packing up the boxes and shipping them off on a per customer basis...wich I am certian aint gonna happen.

The only way I could see that working is if the initial "Steam copy" expired, forcing you to re-activate it using your new "Box copy" CDKey...wich will of course come with its own set of problems.

I think they would check the key that is on the coupon (particularly if you sent them a photocopy) to make sure whether it has been downloaded via steam and activated yet or not. That could be part of the reason for waiting 4-6 weeks - they sit on the coupons for 2-3 weeks and then check the IDs to make sure you haven't tried to download it, and then bundle it up and send it.

Which is really a chicken and the egg situation - if they just sent it out in 1-2 weeks, people wouldn't go on steam and download it while they're waiting...

thats what i was thinking.

surely for even the retail version of the game, the CD key will be on a leaflet or something in the box rather then on the back of the cd case or manual.

You're much more likely to lose a loose leaflet than a manual or cd case.


Gossoon - guess that would work, unless you sent them your original coupon and didn't take a photocopy and they don't send it back. Or you lost your copy of the coupon before it arrived.

But in any event, I think they'd have some sort of system in place to stop people getting two copies - they check that is hasn't been registered on steam before sending the copy out, and steam would check whether or not a copy has been sent out for that code or not.

Guise, I figured you had actually read the ATI site before asking those of us here to speculate. Short answer, NO. You either get the Steam version, or you get the box version. At least for the "Valve Permier pack" so I assume the same for HL2. ATI is handling this one fellas, not Valve. I seriously doubt they are gonna put in place any such system, its a waste of time and effort just so a few people can "have thier cake and eat it too."

i already bought 2 copies of hl so i can already get the games free, and ive seen the steam servers when a big update is in the pipes and i dont think they will be good enough to handle people downloading hl2 worldwide, so i prefer o have it in a box. im gonna guy it in the store anyway the day it comes out for the same reason as above, and i want the copy from ati too becuase i paid for it with my overpriced video card.

I got my premier pack (which I dont play, because I'm sick to death of old HL mods [please read this Gabe!!]) and I keep Steam going 24/7 hoping one day I'll come to my computer and see it downloading something mysterious....
