I was curious about those ED glasses  (they make games become 3-D and pop out of your screen when you where them) and I think HL2 would be great with them. I would buy them but i have never heard from any people if they were good or not.
another great game to play with them would be painkiller, that game in my opinion has better graphics than doom 3

anyway sorry to post off the subject of HL2 I just wanted to know from the people here what you all think about them (E-D glasses  )

I've never even heard of them, do you have a link?

I tried the 3d glasses thing about a year and half ago. I gave up because I own an ATI card and it really works best with NVIDIA. I borrowed an NVIDIA card from a friend for a week to see it in action.

Stereo image gaming is a love/hate thing. You have to crank up your monitors refresh as high as possible to get a good framerate (you FPS will be half your refresh rate in stereo gaming) which usually means playing in a lower resolution (800x600) and even then you still have to worring about flickering and "ghosting" which can cause a headache. Also you hud in FPS are usually 2d which causes havok with the 3d effect.

Still, some games looked pretty cool. Tomb Raider was pretty sweet I just think 3d gaming will not be ready for the masses until Game Companies code for it and we have monitors that can do 200MHz refresh rate. ;)

Anyway, I'll quit rambling. Here is a thread on some people using HL2 with 3d glasses.

so.... they make your games slow, that sucks. i guess I won't get them.

even with comp specs like mine (which aren't the greatest) I couldn't play games well with the E-D Glasses?

Yeah, Alehm, I have to agree that 3d gaming is not ready to go yet (despite that we are ready for it to be ;( ). There are many things that COULD be revolutionary if they were done right... the 3-d glasses were one of them that failed (imo). Another one (which I am the *ahem proud *ahem owner of is the P-5 Glove. This was a "glove based computer interaction system" which was supposed to act as mouse, gun, trigger, etc, and let you control your desktop with your whole HAND -- if, that is, your hand acts like that of a drunken spider monkey that has a degenerative nerve disease!!! It was absolutely the worst type of interface implementation I have ever seen -- it would lose it's settings (requiring recalibration) in mid-game, there was a finger which was set in HARDWARE to interrupt the controller (to let you re-center it) that did not have adjustable sensitivity, so any neareby finger would also cause this one to go off, etc. etc. This thing COULD have been so great, but instead, all it did was entertain my wife as she watched me invent new cusswords as I tried to play Quake 3, and kept blowing myself up!! True story, I once tried to open a folder using the glove like a mouse, and it deleted 7 different things (including the folder I wanted to open). ;(

We definitely need some better implementations of this type of idea, as the current ones are obviously designed not as an interface, but as an entertainment device for those WATCHING the user.

u must be joking, painkiller was shite. it just reminded me of something like duke nukem 3d or something, no real depth to the game, and the graphics were passable, but not doom3

I guess I found painkiller to have such great graphics because they had the levels in a variety of different settings unlike doom3 which was all the same, plus I like the physics more in Painkiller compared to doom 3, I'm not saying doom 3 graphics weren't good in fact I think there phenomonal and the lighting is amazing, but I just think the painkiller engine has more vercitility and it does that thing that like generates thousands times more polygons than the average engine (levels average 350,000 polygons, enimies 3000-4000, bosses 8000+.
