Anyone know how to do this?

Hey Guys, ive been making A4 covers for books / films / games and such, and ive run into a problem with War of the Worlds. I have an image of a Tripod which i want to stick onto paint, but i dont want the rest of the snapshot with it. Anyone know of a problem that can superimpose (or somthing) the tripod onto a blank image without me having to rub out every non-tripod pixel in paint?

Edit: Im trying to stick it on Word, not paint. And the image editors have to be
1.) Free,
and
2,) Legal
