Me and a group of mates have finally decided to shed the shackles of WoW raiding and are looking for something more casual to fill in the gap - in step Guild Wars. I haven't seen much talk about GW on this forum and was wondering if any of you guys play it or have any tips.

Are there any classes that are a must have - is the tank/healer combo essential like in WoW, or can you get by with randoms?

Any suggestions for the best make up of a pve party and what classes do well in pvp?

Live in the uk and want to join our epic adventures?

Alot of the classes look quite girly - all holy magic and skirts - are the Assassin and Warrior the only classes that are handy at melee? I want to get in close and do some damage, but am fed up of the usual rogue/warrior gameplay.

Welcome to the world ;)

Did you get the first game or one of the add-ons? The original (prophecies) is by far the best. If you play PVE like I do, the map is HEE-YOOJ and will take you weeks or months to finish it, and it still looks stunning after 2 years. From the addons, Factions is the most popular, but Nightfall is the latest. There is another one releasing soon that will link to Guild Wars 2 and enable you to transfer your weapons and stuff to the new game next year.

I'm not into PVP so can't help you with builds n sh!t, but in PVE Healing Monks are the most important, so be one of them if you want to get invited to parties a lot. Otherwise, Warriors are the least popular - be prepared to get rejected alot.

Add me to your buddy list (Piles Mcdangerous) and if I ever see you online, i'll help you out with some kit and quests. My main character is an old Warrior/Elementalist.

Have fun :D

Seriously?

No, seriously?

Must be selective reading on my part. If it doesn't interest me at the time it doesn't exist :)

Cheers mate.

We got Nightfall as it was the cheapest. If we like what we find the others will most likely be added. Cheers for the headsup about Monks and Warriors. Me thinks a game of Track and Field over Xbox Live with the loser becoming the Monk is in order :)

Will add you on arrival.

My mate tried to get me to play it, but MMORPG's aren't my thing.
My guy was a ranger/monk or something.

Guild Wars is the only game I have ever played, ever, that has run like a dream straight out of the box. No bugs, no crashes, polished, optimised, looks great, sounds great, intuitive controls and fully editable UI. And it's free to play.

One of my all time fave games, even if it is full of whiney little hitler kiddies.

Warriors are not least wanted. If you`re a good tank, you`re in.

W/Mo is the best when it comes to warriors imo. With the right setup, you can be immortal.

Having played WoW, playing Guild Wars just felt like an extremely boring substitute . . . kind of like a nicotine patch (I'm not a smoker, but that's the best analogy I could think of)

Aye, warriors are always wanted.
Dervish are least wanted...

The standard team is usually one tank, 2 monks, 2 ele's and the rest can be taken up with necro's or whatever. Just depends on the area you're in.

I play as a Warrior as my main character and I don't find it hard to find a team. I'm a good tank so people don't kick me :D

The Dervish are also good with melee. Also make good tanks and runners.
Like someone else said, with the right build on an assassin, warrior, dervish or monk you can be invicinble.

I've got a r/mo. I'll probably start playing again if I have a group to play with. I've only got the origional though.

I got the original three years ago or something. Got a monk to 20 after two weeks. Didn't buy the expansions.

Agreed. If everybody is getting into it, count me in. I've got a....a....shit I don't even remember. Oh well, I guess I'll have to start a new fkn char then. I've only got the original...can't be assed to pay more money for the game quite yet. Not saying it sucks, just I'm spending 300 bucks on a clutch and need to save some money for other parts of my car :p

Did you explore? Do Underworld? PvP? Get some Elite Skills? Get Max Armor?
There's lots to do

lol, I'm a bit worn out on what guild wars had to offer (still highest game on my xfire) with 2 lvl 20 characters.

never got any of the expansions.

Yeah, we should make a hl2.net guild.

In fact, there are many quests in the origional that I haven't done despite me finishing all of the main missions. I've only explored 50% of the map.

Used to play it all the time, never bothered getting the silly chapters, came back a few weeks ago in preparation for GW:EN

Warriors aren't least popular per say. They're over populated, and there's lots of bad ones. A good warrior can ruin anyones day if they drop there guard.

Haha, me and pitzy got on for a while and he cybered with some guy... it was hilarious.

I'm on Prophecies. Name is Javeron Clar. Look me up. I'm Fire E/Mo20, willing to help out in missions until GWEN comes out.

Ahh, too addicted to Guild Wars. I have eight PvE characters, all level 20. Sad I know. I've finished all the campaigns, all of them on my monk. It's so easy to get a group as a monk and it's a fun class to play. Although I'd class necromancer as my fave class to play, especially being an MM.

The problem with starting with Guild Wars Nightfall is that it's so insanely single player for an MMORPG/Co-RPG (whatever GW is classed as!).

It gets a tad boring just working with heroes and henches.

My favourite campaign is Factions. :)

If you need any help, IGN -> Pyro Melsa.

PvE in Guild Wars is absolute shit. I mean really ****ing stupid when compared to something like WoW. The PvP is good, though... even if just in the random arenas (though you will want to turn your chat off if you do that... because of the aforementioned hitler kiddies). I have all three versions just for PvP (each version has different skills so you really need all of them if you don't want to be limited in your skill selection). I was like rank 3 or 4 gladiator before I went to playing mostly World of Warcraft.

The new expansion being PvE only makes me laugh... what a ****ing joke.

Yup, this guy plays WoW all right. :upstare:

The problem with WoW is that once you reach level 70 and get down to serious raiding - mainly because there's nothing else to do - it takes so damn long to do anything. A decent raiding guild needs to get 25 people of the right class setup, all fully prepared with buffs/potions/flasks, four or five times a week for stretches of 4 hours plus. I found myself having to farm for two to three hours a week just to farm consumables so I could raid in the first place!

Wha... it is??? \o/

You mean Eye of the North, right?

I'm pretty sure they'll add new PvP stuff with EOTN.

My in game name is "Beck D Shaw" so add me to your lists :)

Aren't playing as much right now but should be back into it very soon. Got EOTN on preorder. Really looking forward to it, the shiverpeaks are the sex!

Did I mention I have a private guild with a guild hall? I bought it back when they cost like 40 000. :|

Hell, I could even make it the HL2.net guild if you guys want to.

Me and BN had a blast. We made our characters both Ranger/Monks, and we have the same last name.

Little does he know, he wanted me to pick the last name, and I picked Renisis, a mispelled version of "Renesis" the RX-8 motor :p

But yeah, we are just having a blast...some "girl" wanted to cyber with me, so I went along with it, taking a page from the masters book..

"I put on my wizard hat, and beat you with my wand....damn that turns me on!"

yeah, I had a blast..ended the night with a Mushroom Stamp. Can't go wrong there.
