Meh, despite the good scores on imdb and talented actors it doesn't appeal to me.
Thing is, I just can't stand Ron Howard as a director. He's average at best. I find his movies to be so ho-hum, so not memorable, his films are nice and safe. They take no risks. They don't demand anything of the audience. They lead the audience, step by step, through simple tales in which nothing is left to chance; the audience is "told" through standard cinematic devices who the good characters are, who are the bad ones, etc. The audience is even "told" exactly when they're supposed to laugh, when to cry, when to be scared, and so on.
I was really impressed by this movie. It doesn't exactly venture into unseen territory in the athlete-faces-adversity-and-overcomes mold, but everything about it is so solid that it is one of the best examples of it.
