Does anyone happen to have the PPU yet?

If so, go to Ageia's site as the CellFactor demo has been released!

For a bunch of screenshots, visit this thread on the HardOCP forums.

So far it appears that FPS does dip during explosions and such... Right now it's most likely the GPU's limitation having to recalculate shadows and redraw objects and shaders, etc etc... It would suck if it was the PPU's fault, because that would really ruin the point of it if your FPS goes down by 10 or 20... :(

There will be about 3 people playing that, so props to them for making physx required

It does look awesome though. Want videos...

Winner!!! I just got the demo to play without the PPU :D

There's just a few more tweaks I have to make (so I don't get debug info showing everywhere)... And it does run a little slow, but it's still in the 20 FPS range for me, which is fine... Who needs a PPU? ;)

This game is really amazing :D

*Edit* Oh, and I forgot to say that for some reason the cloth doesn't work in my method (that probably requires the PPU... So it's understandable)

Sebastian, the whole point of CellFactor is to be a techdemo for the PPU.. So why wouldn't PhysX be required? The entire demo has been designed to be showcasing PhysX, it's not supposed to be a fullblown game, the commercial CellFactor is another game by another company, the guys who did this only got to BORROW the BACKGROUND from the GAME to use it for the demo to get a general sense of art direction etc :p

Anyway, I think it looks nice, I'd really like to try it out..
It's also very nice that they include a VERY OPEN editor so you can change almost the entire demo, and add fan content etc :p So people could theoretically do a "game" out of this demo :)

Edit: Iced_Eagle, what're your specs? I wanna try it too but I'm afraid I'll go down to 20 SPF(Seconds Per Frame :p) ;(

Even if it was a full retail game we still need these things to push the envelope, right? I mean most of us are requesting more physically simulating games and we need these things to help establish that, no?

Indeed.
I'm gonna add a PPU to my new rig xmas this year, by then they'll hopefully be a bit cheaper too.:)
I so can't wait to try that out then lol..*Thinks in longterm*

Hmm, Im actually considering to buy that PhysX card instead of an XBOX360 :O

yes wise choice, buy a ppu with like 2 games out, and a few due later this year

True but that Cellfactor looks incredibly fun :O
The price tag is way too expensive, but I'm sure the price will decrease by 50-60% in a couple of months =>

How did you get it to work, whats your hardware specs?

I can't really find a way to disable the debugging stuff, but o well, at least you get to play around with the physics...

Basically all you do is load up Reality Builder, and launch the game from there...

Now you can do what I did which was go through and on each visible entitiy change the IsHidden bool variable in the "Visibility" category to false... The one thing I can't figure out is the AI Path node and how to hide that.

Also, since it isn't really running a "game", the flag, and vehicles won't work... Cloth also doesn't appear (most likely because you truly need the PPU for that)

So to do this just go Start -> All Programs -> Artificial Studios -> CellFactor -> CellFactor Editor

From there go File -> LIMBO_FuelingStation

Give it a min or two to load, then once the level has finished loading you need to position yourself over an area of land... Hold Right-Click and move yourself (using WASD) over a nice area where you want to spawn in... Hit F5 and give it about 2 minutes or so (it should appear like nothing is happening... Just give it time!)

Once you are in, you should get a warning about a Cloth Script, just hit OK.

Woot woot, now you are in-game!!! Run around shoot stuff, and play with those physics!

WSAD, Arrow Keys: Move forward & backwards, strafe left & right
Mouse movement: Turn
Left Mouse Button: Shoot Assault Rifle (Primary Weapon) / Swing Flag Pole (CTF mode)
Right Mouse Button: Shoot Impact Grenade (Secondary Weapon)
Mouse Wheel Button: Jump, Fly Up (when Psi-Overcharged)
Mouse Wheel Up: Extend Psi-Pull distance when holding an object, Zoom in (Sniper Mode)
Mouse Wheel Down: Contract Psi-Pull distance when holding an object, Zoom out (Sniper Mode)
Left Shift: Run
Z: Enter/Exit Sniper Mode
R: Reload/Drop Flag
C: Crouch, Fly Down (when Psi-Overcharged)
E: Activate, Enter vehicle
V: Throw Gravity Grenade
F: Throw Proximity Mine
Q: Toggle View (First Person or Third Person)
T: Regular Chat
Y: Team Chat
K: Self Kill (costs points!)
Spacebar: Psi-Push (Allows to push objects around in world)
Left Control: Psi-Pull (Allows to pick up objects in world)
Spacebar + Control (Press & Hold Together): Psi-Charge (Allows to push off ground when released)
To get ammo: Shoot the square indestructible metal boxes a few times, and ammo will pop-out :)

To get the Psi-Overcharge, there is a rectangular box that I think has the radiation symbol on it... Shoot that a few times and a blue-thing will pop up, just run over that and you are in Psi-Overchage!

Enjoy...

*Edit* BTW, you really don't get the full experience playing this way... It's just a workaround so you can mess around... It's not really a "game" in this state, but more like a sandbox..

*Edit2*
If you want vehicles in-game you need to do the following...

Go into the Editor, and the top there is a drop-down Box (this is the Actors List)... Simply click on either CFHelicopter or CFTruck and click Insert.... Then use the gizmo's to put them where you want them (In the top of the toolbar there is a downward arrow, this is the Land-Down button, so you can put the vehicles right on the ground so they don't clip through and get stuck)

Thanks alot mate, I really appreaciate this. Going to try getting it to work now ;D

All I can see is the gun, no environment :O

I would take a 360 over this stupid physics card, although this reminds me of when everybody thought having to buy a 3d accelerator was a stupid idea, and have it with any computer game

Holy shit of mother****ing god! opasdjOPJ(_@!IU9-!!!111

Wow THX!

I was getting VERY good fps with my 7800 GTX and FX55! Wow i wish i could see the cloth and liquid effects tho. :(

so you need PPU in order to get the full features, hmmmm buying one when UT07 hit gameshops

How on earth? I got 5fps with my AMD 3200+, 1GB DDR and X800XL. Any setting changes you made or so?

Nope just opened up the game and ran around blowing shit up. I mean when i starting shooting everything it went down but no were near 5 fps.

No where NEAR. Nothing breaks, no liquid, no cloth.

It's very unlikly that I only get 5fps, I mean X800XL is'nt that old and CellFactor is for sure not on the level of Crysis when it's about hardware requirements :(

EDIT: Raziel-Jcd did you do exactly what the other guy said with the entity things? and how do I get rid of the wires and checker boxes in the game?

Garfield: I'm fairly sure it's because your x800 doesn't do SM3.0 effects (basically shaders look prettier and run faster), while his 7800 does... His is also a "top of the line" card, where your card is "last gen"... Yes it's not old, but technology moves fast.

Raziel: A lot of boxes and shit should break... Try launching a grenade by right-clicking, or launch a gravity grenade by hitting V...

Anyways, yea this is sort of a handicapped version of the game, but at least you get to play something...

7800 is'nt a generation above x800 cards, they are the same gen. Next gen cards are DX10 cards. I changed the texture size to 50% instead of 100%, runs well better now =D

The low fps is a result of physics, which have nothing to do with your graphics card. It's your CPU that is bottlenecking.

No i didnt understand that part of his post. So if you can explain ill test it with that.

I did that 90% of stuff doest break.

Yes they are....

6800 and x800 are considered the same "gen" as they came out at roughly the same time, similar performance to each other, etc etc

7800 and the x1800 are the "next-gen"... These two cards match up similarly on performance and feature-set...

Next-Gen in graphics cards happens a LOT quicker (I believe the schedule is new card series every like 12 or 18 months or something similar to that)

When I say something is Current-Gen when comparing cards, I'm just sort of comparing the generation they are in like feature sets and performance... I'm not talking about their graphical capabilities or which DirectX version they use.... If we considered cards of their generation by which DirectX version they are capable of, then a GeForce 5200 and your x800 would be of the same generation, which isn't true...

Think a 3000+ x2 and a 6600gtoc can run it ?
Edit: Pleaseeeee say yes...

No.

Besides, the only real use to run it is if you have a PPU.

Well obviously the purpose for it is if I have a ppu which I dont. But I wana give it a shot the way Iced_Eagle did, just for fun.

You'd probably get results similar to Garfield's...except worse.
