Been trying to play games as of late on my system (P4 2.8/9800XT/1GB DDR) and every time I do, my computer crashes. I have to reset it. In some cases (when playing CS:S for example) it stops and the screen gets covered in vertical stripes of green and tan and whatnot.

I have updated to the latest drivers on the 9800XT.

What the hell is up? And most importantly...could this be caused by a crappy version of Windows (I seriously doubt it)?

Well the CS:S stripes of green and tan are artifacts, and are a sign that your card is overheating. Because it's overheating, the computer is restarting. It's either that or your power supply, but I doubt it since you haven't had this problem before. Make sure the heatsink/fan is on properly.
