I'm sorry if this is OLD but frankly I don't care if it is, so nurr.

Now, if someone could explain to me why only focussing on the BAD things about the internet (At no point does it say, for example, "But look! Good wholesome Creationist sites!" The horror.) would be a positive advert for an ISP?
Was someone in the advertising dept taking the piss maybe?
And why-oh-why, if you were so terrified of the internet as to believe that the internet does indeed rape your head, and devour your first-born the moment you signed on, would you voice your conerns on the internet, to a company that peddles the internet?
Albeit very badly, it would seem.

AOL is a pretty questionable ISP, but the internet amateurs don't know that, they also happen to be the ones to shit-scared of the 'net. Ssssooooo AOL's new marketing plan is along the lines of: Alienate our target market.

It's easy to not get a virus if you just don't accept every file someone sends you (IM and Email) and get some kind of firewall

But of course, AOL doesn't want anyone to know that so you can pay way too much for dial-up

You do know that there's a second advert that focuses on the good aspects of the Internet, right? They play both during the same commercial break. I think they work well, personally... they're a refreshing change to the stupid "OMG OUR ISP PROTECTS YOUR FROM TEH INTERNETZS VIRUSDEATHSPLODE PROGRAMS!2"

Ah, I did not know that. That's interesting, but I still think it's stupid.

If I didn't know any better - and let's face it, that's AOL's (and most ISPs' actually) ideal market - I'd probably be far more inclined to go with the ISP that said:
"OMG OUR ISP PROTECTS YOUR FROM TEH INTERNETZS VIRUSDEATHSPLODE PROGRAMS!2"
Than the one that said:
"THE INTERNET IS EVIL! NOES! THE INTERNET IS GOOD! NOES! EVIL! GOOD! EVIL! GOOD! Let's call the whole thing off."

If you're trying to sell someone something that has had as much bad press as the internet has (I don't know about you but I'm certainlya drug-peddling, kiddy-fiddling, virus-configuring, identity-stealing, thieving satanic terrorist) it is simply not all that prudent to be candid and honest.
When you are in advertising (and thus have sold your inner being to Beelzebub) honesty is NEVER the best policy. Never ever, ever, ever.

Did you ever think that your coumputer might have worms?

umm AOL is a good idea if you have kids

/me runs

Ive posted this already in the politics session.

"OMG THE INTERNET IS EVIL AND IT SUCKS!

P.S. you should go to our website to chat about it, k?"

*sigh*

I saw the bad one twice in 10 minutes and not a hint of the good one.
