I'll be taking AP Calc as well, only as a senior. Anyways, what he said ^ Tips couldn't hurt.

i am kind of freaked out i got this teacher who has a thick asian accent :(
and ALL my ib exams are crucial for getting a diploma

Get on your teachers good side.

I mean RLY.

They'll be less willing to give you a bad grade.

Like say in an english class, and you misspell one word on your final exam Essay Q. Now, if the teacher isn't too fond of you, he wont think twice about marking it red. Hell, if he doesn't like you, he might even start marking you off on sentence structure.

BUT, if he likes you, he might you know, miss that one error.

Pfft. My english teacher hated me. No wonder I failed that exam. I got a 2, damnit.

haha I failed the IB program because I didn't do any community service journals :shh:

I'll be in AP AB Cal next year as well, as a senior, because I flaked out as a junior and took AP Stat instead (DEVIL CLASS! AVOID AT ALL COSTS) so we can have a study group or some shit on here.

rofl study group ehh; i think it would be nice if we could post notes from our teachers maybe may point in a new way of thinking about something or understanding.

I dropped all my AP classes middle of Junior year because I got sick of them and first semester of that year I hated three of the teachers/their classes. Took regular and easy coasting classes.

Now believe what you want but I actually learned more in those easy classes because I could sit and think about what was being taught. I got through work like a breeze and pretty much never did homework and still got A's in everything.

I think that says something about the way those things are handled. I'm being dead honest about that I really felt like I learned more last semester class work wise than I ever did in any other classes. Now your school might be different but just saying mine. It's weird how that is ain't it?

Hey ennui, could you lock the numbers thread?

aye

and AP classes are a joke, i got a 5 and a 4 on the two ap exams i took and i didn't pay shit attention in class and never did my work

Ya but this is math, a math that is very applicable so i kind of want to pay attention and earn atleast a 3 on the ap who knowmaybe calculus is my hidden dharma. And Rakurai im glad you found that the non ap pace was for you, some people arent fit for the program and it doesnt really matter anyway in the end some people will have six seven figure jobs and some people will just be... some people. Then big spoiler alert we all die and burn. Matter we dote thy pages in the book of history is a big thing isnt it. Uhmm sorry for going on that tangent but..
So just do what you want live your own life if people call you stupid or w/e **** them life is full of luck and being in the right place at the right time.

So back to calculus im waiting on Dan the man or w/e he knows his math.

It wasn't really the pace that was a problem. I got A's and B's in the AP classes too. We seemed to go just as fast (if not, ironically) faster in the other classes. It was just that the broader ideas were thrown at rather than focusing on certain details. As a result more details get explored by students. Whether they're too stupid to understand it is debatable (as half in there were LOL) but I found myself happy in English etc to not have the teacher's interpretation of literature forced upon us and such.

i'm inclined to agree with rakurai. generally the higher the course is, the worse the teacher is, or the teaching method.

Well in college maybe it wont be so bad with higher courses generally because the teachers love their subject, it just seems in high school the higher the course the worse the teacher less iniatitave to teach and not totally memorize for some reason, maybe because more pressure i duno?

I was accepted to the IB program but I'm taking AP because I'm lazy

I did SL IB calc, it was ridiculously easy. Well not easy, but graded easily. I got a 7 and I didn't even finish the final exam. Just know how to integrate stuff. IBs not really as hard as some people make it out to be. The secret is to be as lazy as possible. Only do assignments that count for marks, don't do regular homework. If it's an IB assignment there's likely an exact grading scheme available and several examples to look at. Just make sure that you complete everything required to get the top mark. Also learn how to write bullshit essays if you don't already. The easiest IB credit I had was advanced history. You basically just have the whole year to memorize 3 essays on different topics and then regurgitate them on the exam. I got a 7 in that too.
