Apocalypse Now

After reading Joseph Conrad's 1899 novel, Heart of Darkness, I heard from my English teacher that Apocalypse Now was an adaptation of it. I watched it, and was impressed. It followed the novel very nicely, and translated the themes of 1899 to the Vietnam era brilliantly.

Great movie. Redux isn't very good though.

I have Heart of Darkness somewhere, but I haven't read it yet.

Apocalypse Now is easily one of the best movies I have ever seen.

I preferred Redux, the French Plantation scene really worked for me.

Apocalypse Now Redux is my favorite movie of all time.

I only just read Heart of Darkness last year but it was a fantastic read and I was shocked at how closely the movie followed it.

Hm. Seems I am in a minority in not liking Redux. The French Plantation scene didn't fit with the rest of the movie and the USO showgirl scenes were horribly acted. The only part I liked of the redux was when they stole Kilgore's surfboard and when it shows Kurtz reading Time Magazine.

Different strokes I guess.

Loved the original, bought Redux, but have to say I don't think it was as good. Personally I couldn't understand what the French guy was saying because his accent was so thick, and the girl in the trunk seemed out of kilter.

Haven't seen Redux D: Will have to pick it up sometime.


Original was sublime, even if it was a little hard to make sense of (being unfamiliar with the book at least).

I probably only really like Redux because I watched it like 200 times before seeing the regular version.
The French Plantation was just very interesting for me although I admit it did seem a little out of place...but Mr. Clean's funeral scene was good, didn't really care for the scenes where the boat meets the bunnies at all... way too long and ultimately pointless.
The whole surfboard scene was pretty awesome though, I really can't nitpick the movie just because of how awesome it is.

Haven't seen the original.
