Now this is absolutely retarded on Apple's part.

Essentially, Apple realized that they have jack shit in terms of web-browsing in terms of how many people actually use Safari that aren't on a Mac. They advertised the beta's and what-not, but nobody is biting (but for good reason!).

Then Apple had an epiphany.

They realized that a whole hell of a lot of people are running iTunes. iTunes comes bundled with the Apple Update utility...

Why, let's just push Safari down the Apple Update to anyone that has iTunes!

The CEO of Mozilla said it best... That's very borderline of it becoming malware by pushing unwanted software down people's throats. Of course you can just uncheck it, but think of the average user who doesn't know what the hell it is. The utility says they need an update so I guarantee that 8 or 9 times out of 10 that they will just hit OK without thinking.

I got this update when I started itunes this morning, I looked at it and thought 'what the hell does safari have to do with itunes' and canceled the update. I told my friend who is an Apple enthusiast and even he was a little ashamed of it. Absolute madness...

It popped up for me after I switched on my PC this morning. If only Quicktime wasn't so great, then I wouldn't need any apple programs.

They've been pushing iTunes with QuickTime for awhile now. Nothing wrong with either iTunes or Safari, but forcing users is a little shady. Especially, when you don't provide alternative option.

I hate iTunes. WMP <3

I have Safari only because I use it to test my web apps, so I figured it was just an update... I didn't realize Apple was pushing it out to everyone. That almost sounds like something Microsoft would do...

Man, apple ****ing sucks. I'm going to go ahead and boycott anything to do with them.

and why the Hell would anyone use Quicktime? It's malware if you ask me. I can't remember exactly what happened, but I think it wouldn't let me uninstall it or keep it from starting with windows or anything until I edit my registry.

Don't listen to websites that say, "You need quicktime to play this" because you don't. Kiss my ****ing ass. I wouldn't install quicktime if you paid me. That piece of shit sucks. I can't see why hardly anyone would need quicktime to start up with their PC everytime they turn it on, and have no option of disabling it.

Just use Zoomplayer or Gom media player. (free) Gom will play anything if you get the right codecs. It's got some killer features too, like user selected section looping of video.

What was up with their beacon thing that installs silently with Photoshop. It's called "Apple Bonjour service" if you want to do a search on it. I'm sure you will find many pissed off people. And you need special hacker software to remove it! Unbelievable.

Also, $200 or $300 + dollars for an MP3 player? Yeah, um, I know it's much better than mine, but mine was $30 and it does the same thing.

**** you apple. Welcome to the top of my shit-list.

PS - Internet Exploder is shit. Please run away from it and get firefox or something.

Hear hear. Quite ironic how Apple markets its hardware as slimline, cool and stylish, while its software is all a bloated useless granny-trap.

Btw Quicktime Alternative is IMO the best way of getting around having to use the lame duck that is QT.

lmao, so true. My poor Mom's computer is haunted with that shit.

I use gom player for all my media, but actually I just installed the latest version and it appears to be trying to make connections (but PG2 blocks it) every time you play anything, even with 'check for updates' unchecked, so I may go back to an earlier version. I'll have to do a quick google search to find out what it's doing.

The other thing that is sweet as hell about Gom, is that it will play incomplete or damaged video files. The damaged part won't play of course, but the rest of the video is salvaged.

But yeah, it plays quicktime, and it plays quicktime in browsers if I'm not mistaken.

I believe the key to playing the web content is all in the codecs. Probably something called FD Show or DirectShow, which was included in a codec pack from www.downloads.com.

I'm sure I've heard some people saying that the codec packs are a bad idea but I can't remember why. I haven't had any problems. I couldn't be happier.

I did download Quicktime alternative in case I ever need it. Thanks.

A lot of people are saying that KMPlayer is the best media player on the planet, and even better than Gom, so I'm going to give that one a shot. If it doesn't have start/stop video loop playback, I'll continue using Gom though.

In case you want to try KMP or read the reviews:

Never knew apple was this bad..

I just turned on my itunes, but I didn't receive any message actually.

Ive stopped updating stuff from Apple a long time ago. Ever since I found iTunes on my computer and never installed it myself.

I wonder how such a big company can be so stupid.

Fortunately I happen to like Safari, it's fast, small and I like the smooth font but yeah I agree, what they're doing is very lame and sort of desperate. On top of it all they haven't released an update to the Safari beta in a long while, as good as it may be there are tons of bugs that need to be fixed.

Bah. Firefox + extension still win! <3
