I am still at skool and am planning to phone a local old peoples home to ask for a job doing washing up/cleaning. Just wondered if you had any advice...

Be ready for urine stains on the things you wash.

I don't think many people will apply for a job like that so as long as you make yourself out as a decent person who can be friendly and respectful of the elderly then you will probably get the job. Although they may have a strict screening process to ensure you aren't a former convict or anything like that.

That is a tough job but very rewarding if you have alot of compassion. The elderly have alot of good advice and unfortunately our society doesn't value them. It's a great career track as well. I'm 45 and had to put several aunt's and uncle's into homes. We baby boomers are going to need alot of help and you'll get some really good insights on life. Good luck to you and thanks for giving back to the community.

Those type of jobs tend to pay pretty well, relatively speaking. Don't be afraid to ask for a higher pay-rate than you actually expect. That way after "negotiating" you'll be right where you want to be.

uh, don't take it so seriously really. I don't know exactly how it is where you live, but where I live and all around these areas. Places like that are in desperate need of workers, and will hire any willing to work. Oh and the ones around here pay crap.

So long as you job title isn't "The Groom of the Stool" I think you'll be just fine.

Ugh, I'd hate that. :P

I sort of knew someone who had that type of job... he never really talked about it, though... maybe it was too traumatizing...

:) Hey, it's a job that's what really counts! I am trying to get my friend to hook me up at some beverage stand in a Mall, it's called "Surf City". I asked my other friend to try and hook me up at a spot at some video store, I don't remember the name I think it was just called "98 Cent Video" hehe.
