Quick poll.

My cousin is shipping off to Iraq soon to do his six months for Queen and Country, and not that I agree with it, and I'm worried to **** that something will happen to him, I'm just curious who else has a family member either in Iraq, or elsewhere in the armed forces?

best of luck to your cousin, craigweb.

ta' He's already done 2 stints (6 months each) in Kosovo (not the same I know), but I have faith he'll be okay.

My mother and his are twin sisters, and with He and I being 2 years apart in age, we're more like brothers really.

:naughty: My oldest brother served in the Marines since the age of 18 and now he is in the Navy, he is a worker in the USS Sacramento- supply ship. He would have been a grunt and saw some action if he were to stay in the Marines. I guess he switched over to Navy to become more skilled at mechanics so he could get acquainted into a job in that field.

My older bro is in the Marines and He spent most of last year in Iraq. Hes been put on alert again so he might have to go back.

I think my cuz that works on the fighter jets is over there...Could be wrong though, hardly talk to him....

that sucks. actually going out and doing time there, coming back, and being told you might have to go back out.

in Farenheit 9/11 MM talks to a guy who served his time out in Iraq, who flat out refuses to go back (even if he gets court marshalled)... dont blame him either.

close-knit family then :p

You missed a few options:

Family members serving the armed forces in the US
I am serving in the armed forces in Iraq, other board, and US.

I am active duty Air Force, and proud of it, even if I don't agree with the current administration.

I serve my country from Barksdale AFB, Louisiana. There are many others who serve their country from within the US as well. Don't forget about them, chances are they've already been to the middle east and back!

True. I'm curious, you say you're proud of being in the Air Force (which is fair enough), and you also say you don't agree with the current administration, but where do you draw the line?

What I mean is where would you put pride to one side and flat out refuse to do what the Bush administration ordered you to do?

My cousin is on an aircraft carrier somewhere over there.

No close family, but about a half dozen people I know.. Old friends, new friends, friends' parents, etc, all in Iraq.

May they all return safely. :|

Lots of friends and people I know, but no family. My brother and I will probably be the first in the military for my family in this generation.

:x Oh not to mention my brother's wife, my sister in law. I guess some of her cousins and I think couple of uncles are in the Navy as well oh yeah her pops was in Air Force, now he is a lawyer. They are Filiphino, lotta flips in the Navy.

I will serve in the swedish army soon at the artillery battalion, im going in august..not going to war tho..

First I reallt thaugt that France was stupid not to enter Iraq, now I'm damn proud they diden't. Smart French, hehe

GhostValk :(

Well, I guess I don't really know him but I miss his posts.

I have a step brother and a cousin in iraq.

Craigweb, just wanna wish your cousin well, and that goes the same to everyone else who knows someone out there. I don't know anyone out there and so I can't know exactly what you must be feeling (although I can guess), especially if you oppose the war. How does your cousin feel about it?
I read a letter, I think it was in The Times, from a soldier who said that he was going out to Iraq to do his duty for his country, albeit reluctantly. It must be hard to be in such a position, and I can only imagine it gets increasingly harder whilst out there.
I don't agree with the war, but that doesn't mean I don't want the soldiers to be safe. Except for the ones who tortured Iraqi prisoners for some disgusting power trip - that's not to say I hope they die, it's just that my sympathy for them is severely diminished. They give a bad name to the rest of the armed forces and indeed the rest of the Western world.

Clearly, your cousin isn't very intelligent.

Clearly you are an emotionless vampire, who has come to suck on the bad feelings generated by your little remark. Stay back demon!!

Seriously though, that was pretty much uncalled for in more than one sense of the word. :|

We havent been in war for the past 220 years :)

Im going to serve the Swedlands army in about 1 year from now... dont know what i will do yet... but i have to.

Thanks el Chi.

I don't think he's too happy about it, but he's been in the army for four years, is signed up for at least six and anyone who's been in the army will tell you that getting out of the army before your time is over just doesn't happen.. well not very often, so he has to do it.

Yes sorta, my Dad went to Iraq like right when they started sending people there, and he has already come back. I know lots of peoples parents too that are over there now, or were over there too. I guess you get that when your family is in the military.

one of my best friends in the world is over there right now, i consider him a brother, therefore he is family, my friends and the group we all hang with are so close they are my family. he's already been there, back here and there again. He just left the 5th to go back :( I miss em' hope he makes it home alright.
