Are game companies folding just like banks? For the past 3 months companies have either killed games fired developers or just went bankrupt?

Certain game companies have been getting screwed left and right one way or another for a long time now.

I don't think it's a matter of the economy. It's just a fact of the game industry, when you have little companies with chances of being swallowed up by larger conglomerate companies like EA and usually spit back out after being partially or fully digested.

What Raz said. Game studios have always come and gone, there are so many past greats that have fallen that I can't even remember all of them.

Oh and uh, I think conglomerate was a wrong choice of words I used. I don't think EA is a conglomerate by definition.

"A sedimentary rock composed of gravel, cobbles and boulders mixed in with sand or mud."

Sounds apt to me.
P.S. I am well aware of the definition of conglomerate as applied to a corporation, this is just a joke.

Banks are folding because they are moronic and lending monies to the wrong people (unlike smart countries banks that remembered what happened the last time a recession hit). The same happens in the game industry. Big publisher X gives wads of cash to small dev team y. Sooner or later one of these y companies produces a failure. Big publisher X tries to recoup as much monies as possible. At the end of the day only the smart or incredibly lucky publishers are left standing. Devs come and go all the time and aren't the problem.

I sure hope we're gonna soon see an event that will obliterate the hacks and leave the artists.
