are the new Prince of Persia games consistent with the Prince of Persia 3D story?

I don't know if any of you remember that game.... It was actually quite good. Now I have noticed that there are a bunch of new Prince of Persia games, Sand of Time, etc... Are they in the same spirit of Prince of Persia 3D or have they been completely reinvented?

The new ones are tied together with each other, but seemingly completely seperate from any of the first three. I love the new ones, to be sure, but I can't help but think that Jordan Mechner is turning over in his grave. That may be because he's not dead, but I think you get my point...

Play the old Princes of Persia.

The new ones do not follow the story of PoP3d, becuse it sucked, royally sucked, even the devs said it sucked.

Jordan Mechner worked with Ubisoft on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and is said to be working with Ubisoft on Prince of Persia: Kindred Blades.
The new games are considered prequels to the old games.
