Innocent movie-fairy-tale was released in the USSR in 1964. In the late 90's it was released in the US on VHS. Has unexpectedly caused a storm of emotions among americans and got into the top 100 list of worst movies ever on the biggest movie website of the internet - www.us.imbd.com .

First, I'd like to start with that this fairy tale is the most beloved fairy tale among russian kids. Infact, in the Czech Republic they show this movie every new year's eve and(believe it or not) people still love it(and od not get bored). So tell me how the hell can those people call themselves critics if they call this movie a delirius outcome?!?! I'm really pissed off!!! Here are some quotes from some american assclown reviewers:

"The wierdest movie in the history of cinema! Probably, some russian script-writers ate drugs..."

"Some kind of crazy fantasy\tale about a boastful young man, who turned into a bear, 11-year old outist(aligophreniac) girl, wich he wants to tempt, idiotic housó with legs(chicken legs, if he was to stupid to notice that), unhappy family of ugly russo-finish people, ugly lad which freezes trees and kills birds; pig-like toboggan and a dworfe who resembles to a mushroom..."

"Acid teletubies!"

"The worst part is that they made this movie for kids. It's schyzophrenic, horrifieing, psychopathic mishmash. If I were to watch this movie as a child, I'd go crazy."

"I would be interested to know the piquant details of russian country life. I didn't even have a clue that before miting with her potencial husband russian girls had to do a clowny make-up and wear a tiara, as they do in a Burger King restaurant!"

Well duh, not like america knows anything about russia except the distored view of "Mother****ing commie bastards"

I watched it while I lived through a Russian winter w/my fiance and her family, in Naberezhnye Chelny; thought it was pretty fun to watch myself. I understood that: I am in another country & culture; this is a fairy tale; it is old cinematography.

I have similar queezy feelings whenever Christmas rolls around in America, and we have to watch "frosty the snowman" or "rudolf" in those scary stopaction flicks. Give me Morozko any day.

the only russian movie i've seen is the battleship potemkin

i'm sure most people haven't seen this film...so there isn't much to talk about...sure the critics were probably closed-minded and uninformed...nothing new.

Actually, to me this is a selling point :)

I'm going to try to find it.

To me it was somewhat surprising that a Russian movie would be that popular in the Czech Republic. I always thought Czech people were very anti-russian.

EDIT: W00t Ant Lion at last!

if its based off russian fairy tales why would they judge, since they obviously know nothing about any of them?

Was it dubbed or subbed?

THey probably didn't understand half of what was going on in any sense of the phrase, and thats probably why they didn't like it. quick-to-judge closed-minded bastards, it feels like.

Oh God, why are they releasing old Russian movies on DVD's for Americans??? They will never understand it ...

My sister, she came to US when she was 5. She no longer understands any Russian movies (she knows the language, but the plot doesnt make sense to her) .. it's sad really. :(

I haven't counted the number of Americans reviewing this, but at least some seem to like it.

I have it, but I haven't watched it yet.

Loshadka/Lone Deranger:

I'm building the courage to watch it. I think want to be in a happy mood when I see it so I don't get get completely depressed.

EDIT: How would you rate it?
