A recession is just knocking on our door.
Inflation is rising.
Politicians are getting more stupid by the day.

are you worried that your current life style will change?

i'm not thinking about an apocalypse, where we have to grow our food and procure other stuff (well at least not yet).

but...food, gas, exotic stuff becomes a lot more expensive. Good jobs are becoming increasingly hard to find, unemployment skyrockets. Consequentially also crime rate raises.

i really hope this never happens because i like the "higher" standard of living (btw, i'm not rich if you might be thinking that).

remember the kind of videos kerberos posted, they'll get more frequent when social poverty increases. i seriously don't like to get kidnapped, robed, tortured and kileld for no reason whatsoever, you?

Hmmm. I think ultmitaly lifestyle will improve as it always have, but it will be a bumpy ride. For example, we nowadays have perhaps more stress than ever. But most sane people wouldn't want to live in any past period. So, perhaps in the short term, lifestyle might change for the worst; but eventually it will improve. :)

Recessions usually wake people up. So it may be bad in the short term, it will get better once things pick up again.

This wont wake anyone up. People are ****ing stupid. As long as you lower their taxes, no matter what happens to the economy, they will vote for you.

These are the same idiots that approved one of the largest tax cuts for the wealthy while a war was going on.

no, I'm more worried about my kids quality of life when they're adults

"put on the sp1500 sunblock son ..oh and dont forget your oxygen mask, and giant anti-scorpion spray, we're off to the badlands for a picnic"

That scenario is entirely preposterous... they won't make children sized oxygen masks because the market share won't be high enough.

umm I did say when they're adults ..try to pay attention :E

LOL. That thing is so freaky looking.

Anyways, the joke wasn't about the mask, it was that everything else you mentioned I didn't object to. Especially not the giant scorpions.

Well, yeah, I'm worried. We have always assumed that progress will ensure a better lifestyle for our children; I don't think we can take that for granted anymore. When I was a kid in Scotland my dad used to take me on long walks around the countryside nearby, up the little roads and paths, blooming in summer, stark and beautiful in winter. And he'd say to me: "be glad of this now. I am happy to have lived here. Because none of this may be here in fifty years."

Enjoy it while you know you can.

it will all be scortched earth and irradiated meadows when the time finally does come

long live our new masters, whomever they may be

yeah...i'm not just talking for our children but for ourselves too. (ok, exclude stern since hes nearly a grandpa :p)

our lives could get pretty shitty soon.

I am starting to get worried. I mean, as a teen myself i want to have the chance to succeed and raise a family. I am also worried about my family. I don't want to see us go broke and have life be pure hell. It'll really suck if our (US) economy falls because the whole world will go with it. The Great Depression took a World War to get us out of it. I can only imagine what would happen when resources dwindle and people start to fight. It will be WW3. The US would eventually go to war with N. Korea and Iran. Russia would go to war with China. Pakistan to war with India. Then sides would form. Since now we are in a nuclear age nukes would be the quick option to defeat your enemy. So many nukes would be launched that we would annihlate ourselves.

A little far fetched maybe but it isn't out of the question. I don' t want to raise my family in a world war.

My opinion. Please don't attack me for it.

*O*T*C* Escape.

I'll be fine, I live in Europe where all America's money's going. And in case of a war the french will come to the rescue cause its their turn.

Who the **** are you? I only started noticing you these last 3 months, and every time I see your avatar I think of Ennui, but I have no idea why.

OTCE slightly mentioned...

how many of you would like to quit school, get a crappy job and send all your income to support your family? most of the world is doing this we are just an exception.

seriously think about it.

no more free time,
education gone,
poor quality monotone food,
awful health care (this is an important one, how many of you were ever seriously ill and needed medication? or did your teeth ever hurt? infection, internal parasites),
jobs will become more and more physical and less services,
houses will be closed down in favor to dense city blocks,
no more pets,
religion will become stronger and thus more stupid things will be legislated,
home heating will become less reliable,
violent crimes will raise, more mobs,

people we don't need an apocalypse to make our "first world" lives miserable. ask anyone from a third world country.

i'm most afraid of loosing health care and increase in crime.

You hit it right on. Those are most of my biggest fears.

It can't get any more worse.

Seriously. Even a war would be better.

If only I didn't live in a society where studying is your only hope..... Damn I haven't been out in 3 ****ing days. I've been staying in my room all the time with my Maths books, my modern history books, my language arts books, my science books, my... you get the idea.

Anyway, economically speaking, our lives will be better. Unless the barbarians invade again or something.

I live in Asia, which could possibly benefit if America had a recession. Investors might start turning here. On the other hand, we might sink with the rest of the world...

Far fetched? Hardly. I'd say that at this point it's likely.

Russia has issued numerous statements that they are willing to launch into a nuclear conflict in order to protect their interests, even preemptively. NATO has responded in kind, saying that nuclear weaponry could be used even to protect energy assests.

Me? I'm past worrying. I've quietly accepted and am mentally preparing.

Double post, sorry >.<

In our global community, everything is far too connected for one nation to go down and not have everyone else suffer.

Unfortunately true. However some countries will able to be float better than others. America goes down far enough, another global power will ultimately rise in time, and the world slowly balances out again in a different way than before. It won't be pretty but it will still be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Ermm... well I've been here for quite some time.

Even in Star Trek there was a third world war before the second renaissance. You may perish in the flame of the upcoming conflict, but humanity will become stronger because of it.

/ridiculous...

You do realise the FED know that cutting interest rates to ease the problem in the short term will eventually bury the dollar, unless you think they are that stupid. They do it by design, there is nothing accidental about it whatsoever. They are trying to kill the dollar and Usher in the Amero, it's pretty blatant.

No. One civilisation might fall, but another one will rise up. It's been evident throughout the ages. People just worry because it's happening to them now. It's as inevitable as the sun setting. I doubt, however, that it will happen in the not-so-distant future, however. People are constantly fucking paranoid about crap, and there really is no need to be. Sure, you can look back on the past and say "life was better then", but then life was always better in the past. It's always better, no matter how bad it was. The future might look good, the past will look good, but the present will also be shit. Sure, you might have a good day, but that good day will soon be in the past, and you'll only start comparing every day in the future to it, and of course every day will seem worse and worse as you idolise the past more and more.

I constantly long for my past, because it wasn't quite as bad as this. But my brain knows better. Then was as shit as now, and there's little you can do about it. It might get worse, it might get better, but you'll always long, nostalgically, to be in the past. It's just an illusion. The kids on the streets are getting out of hand, and you long for the days you could belt them. But then when you could, you'd just long for days when they'd just obey everything you said. And it goes on. Sure, our society is advancing, and things change, but things have gotten better. People actually try to make peace. They learn from their mistakes.

Another enhancement of the illusion that life is degrading is the media. Seriously, there's little else that needs to be said. One death is paraded on TV for weeks, when years ago, there'd be little worry about it. They'd try to sort it, find out who did it and hang/shoot/kill the bastard.

And about the Great Depression requiring a World War to get out of, it's funny, because it was a World War that stuck you there in the first place. The "energy crisis" you'll solve, "global warming" we'll live through, and no-one will launch any nukes, because everyone's too frightened. Similarly, we won't get taken over by robots. Another thing media has done to us is make us extremely and unecessarily paranoid.

Edit: And rising prices are called inflation. Less jobs available is also bullshit. There are plenty of jobs, just not the same ones that there used to be.

Other. I am not worried about what will happen to our world in the future, but concerned. Being worried is like being a scared little bird flapping it's wings wildly inside a cage with no place to go. I'll make sure to have a plan for my family. Besides, as an individual, we have no control over what will happen, so there's no since to be worrying about our idiotic leaders. I do wonder what will happen, but it's important to keep a cool mind in order to plan ahead of time for your families on what we should do when the inevitable comes.
