Alrighty. I got dsl about a week ago. 3.0mbps. Good stuff. It works fine most of the time.

In the night though I get reeeeealy slow speeds, and periods of disconnection. My computer's fine, the line's fine, the network (bellsouth) is fine too.

All were checked out by me and by two repair guys over the last week.

Apparently (:dozey:) the only thing left that's interfering with my DSL is a rogue signal that comes on intermittantly during the night in my area.

Any ideas on how to locate/find the problem source? I'm going to call the FCC in the morning but I don't expect to get any results from them.

A rogue signal? Are you using a wireless router perchance? Or does your ISP/whoever mean that someone is stealing bandwidth unexpectedly at night?

If any of your neighbors have the same ISP, you might try asking them if they are having similar problems.

No router, no wireless router. I don't know if anyone's stealing bandwidth, they just said that the only thing left is a device that's causing a signal that interferes with my DSL.

I've tried turning off all the lights in the house, security system, I don't have satellite tv. None of my neighbors have dsl, at least up to two houses away in all directions. I can pick up a wireless network nearby, but that shouldn't be an issue as I'm connected without a wireless router. My line goes straight into the wall.

[edit] btw this post took over 15 minutes due to a disconnect.

Does your phone still work when the DSL dies? it's the same line, just a much higher frequency and as such the line needs to be clean from inteference... I'm guessing a line filter or booster witll sort you out.

I have a sort of problem with my phone and my ADSL actually, whenever the phone rings or something my internet halts for a second or so, which causes my mIRC to crash and stuff..

Weird, since ADSL is supposed to co-operate with phone.

How about you buy a router off of ebay, or buy a new modem of off ebay. Or ask Bellsouth if you can borrow a modem for a week. That probably wont solve things. But worth a shot. You can always unplug the adsl modem for a minute then replug it. I have Bellsouth but i get BS speeds like 40k/bs but its ok. If the problem doesnt get any better, you might want to switch to cable only thing about cable I notice from my friends is that when it goes down it goes down.

But you have filters in front of the phones on the same line, right?

I reckon you need to check your filters. I've yet to encounter anything which can cause inteference on a fixed line.

Filters etc are all fine. The connection works perfectly during the day. The modem was provided by bellsouth, and has been replaced. Arg I may have to cancel. It's just not worth it, it cuts out during the time I use it most.
