NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I just purchased GRAW 2 a few days ago and i go to play a few missions and i get these red things thats pop up on the power ring. The top right one is fine the top left is red , the bottom left is red and the bottom right is red . :(

I just searched it and its a hardware issue. NOT GOOD cause i think my warrenty is up this sucks.

Whats the best way to fix this? send it in ? Anyone here has had any console issues in the past.

Ive had console issues before. I had to buy new ones.

My friend got the 3 red lights and got a new one sent back within a week of mailing it out, it's not bad at all

If it's under warrenty. If not they want you to cough up stupid amounts of cash to repair it, buying a new one would probably work out cheaper in the long run.

You could try the old towel wrapped around the 360 trick. May fix it, may not. Fixed some guys I know at college and his has worked again ever since. But some work and die again.

Find out if it has any warrenty left.

Crappy console, crappy quality control, high, very high failure rate, and yet all the hate goes to the PS3, go figure...

Take the pwer supply out and put it back in. I had the same thing happen to mine.

Another 360 failed? **** Sony!

Seriously, I personally know 3 people who have had 360's die on them, one of which is my roommate which means I don't get to play 360 games anymore. That is ****ing ridiculous. These things have the highest failure rate I've ever seen. I used to think launch PS2's having DREs 1-2 years into their lifespan was bad but Jesus Christ...

MS makes shitty products - they force you to buy proprietary products like HDDs and charge ridiculous prices for Wi-Fi adapters or memory cards, there's no option for free online matchmaking, there's no included HD media format, no HDMI ... they just nickel and dime the shit out of you. Just look at their online service, it's filled with bullshit micro-transactions and they don't even tell you how much it costs, they try and trick 12 year olds into spending more money by disguising it in Microsoft Points."

Not that any one corporation is less evil than another, but when it comes to ****ing over consumers MS easily beats out Sony. If you think a PS3 is too expensive then don't buy it, but at least the damn thing ****ing works and once you buy it you're done.

interesting

but ya i have to agree, the failure rate of these things has been astonishingly high
i can only pray that mine holds out long after the warranty is up :|

Hmmm...what a coincedence. My 360 also died last week while trying to play the GRAW 2 demo. I hear it has a lot of freezing that game. But I find it kind of weird that my 360 never froze before, and then I downloaded that demo, it froze on about 5 different occasions, and stopped booting altogether (3 red lights).

Anyways, just call customer support and they'll ship you an empty box to send your 360 in. I'm currently waiting for that empty box but it should be showing up soon.

Also, Samon either has no clue what he's talking about (highly likely) or the time he called customer support the guy was having a bad day. I'm thinking its the former becuase I got my repair service done in about 2 minutes on the phone with no troubles what so ever.

Christ, do they release consoles in beta form or something?

Just because Sony is so bad (see: Marketing). There's lots of 360 haters on here too I'm sure.

They were obviously cunningly designed to give up the day after the warranty ended. That's what I really hate about consoles, they are fairly compact and with recent tech they require alot of stream lining and tweaking to make them reliable yet it's near impossible to properly test them for defects in the long term before they go into the market.

Then if they pack up you can't simply replace a component yourself and instead you have to endure the wait and costs of sending the whole thing back to the developers.

In my best movie trailer voice:

"The software company that originally brought you the blue screen of death is back for more in this new thriller called the red lights of doom."

Honestly I'm not in any way, shape or form suprised that a product from Microsoft does this. I hope it's a pain free hardware swap for you. There's no excuse for this sort of thing.

I've been thinking of getting a 360...but really would rather have a PS3 imo. ;(

Too bad about the 360s frying though.

Mine failed also about 2 weeks ago, same problem as you however I fixed mine :D.

To see if it's a connection problem leave your 360 on (flashing those three red lights) for about 15 minutes. Then turn it off and on again. If it boots up no problem then you have what thousands of others have had.

It's partly due to the shitty design of the motherboard, I don't want to write a whole thing on it now but try my advice above and post your results.

Its retty common. Both of my cousins 360s have died and mine seems to be on its way out. They both got theirs replaced at wal-mart, even though only one of them actually bought theirs there. Seems they don't really check for receipts at our local one. I'm just going to send mine back to microsoft as soon as I can get the receipt for it.

I've had mine since November 2005 and I've not had a single problem with it. The warranty expired long ago. Microsoft even extended the warranty, and most retailers have their own extended warranties. There's obviously an issue with some consoles, but at least there are some that work OK!

The new revision of the 360 has the lower-temp CPU and probably a few other hardware fixes. I think i'll buy a new one when I can afford to.

hmmm alot of good advice here i'll try them out a.s.a.p.. Thanks everyone. If nothing works i'll end up just getting a ps3 cause my friend just returned his.

Lol they set you up the bomb

Heh. I popped in F.E.A.R. 3 days ago and my 360 died as soon as shit started to hit the fan.

Man Alan you're just having one letdown after the other don't you :| First your XBOX360 and then Stalker

Wow, this actually worked for me. I can't connect to Live though and I'm not sure if thats the 360's fault, or if its Vista's fault (I use windows ICS). But my Xbox has been on and hasn't frozen for a good 30 minutes now.

Now I just hope I can get it to red light again by the time that empty box shows up at my house.

EDIT: Sweet. It now works 100%. Live connectivity, Media Center Extender, music/file streaming. Wooooo!

I've never had an issue with my 360 since getting it in December 2005...

My friend did have his PS3 crap out (dvd drive gave up the ghost) which sucks...

Shit happens guys... There will never be a fault-proof product. It's just that the 360 has been out for coming up on two years now, so everyone widely knows about the issues, whereas the other two systems are still fairly fresh and all of the issues aren't uncovered yet.

Aha, it worked!

Glad to hear :D
Word of warning though, eventually it will RED LIGHT again. Just do the same trick and it should work once more.

The problem is the GPU actually loses contact with the motherboard. This is because of the extreme heat and then rapid cooling (when turned off) the board has to endure. Plus the clamp that holds the GPU/CPU down doesn't help at all, it literally pulls the motherboard away from the GPU.

Our 360 at Uni is borked aswell. The 360 will freeze and give us artifacts and strange sounds :( Also, it ate the Gear of War DVD so i'm not sure if that works anymore either.

We get no red lights or anything though.

The cases of Wii's and PS3's dying seem to be isolated incidents. It's not a matter of how long it takes to see the problems ... the fervor over 360's crapping out was at it's peak during the launch. People were getting consoles that were complete duds. Then later on it became obvious that a lot of the launch consoles only had ~1 year lifespans and had significant problems before dying.

While the other two will obviously have their glitches and faults, I doubt it will be nearly as bad. The worst mass defect in last generation consoles was the PS2 DVD drive crapping out after a couple years ... that pales in comparison to the the 360 failure rate.

I've got to say ... Nintendo seem to make the most solid products. My SNES and N64 still work flawlessly. I remember my PS1 being on the fritz when I sold it and my PS2 started getting DRE's about a year ago. The Wii should be built even better considering the price and the fact that it's using much older technology.
