Armless Models?

Hi, I have a question about models. I wasn't quite sure if it really fit into the modeling section, so I'm putting here.

Anyway, I've been reading the valve developer community site, and some of the tutorials on here, because I want to gradually teach myself how to mod Half-Life 2, in order to create a Madness Combat mod.

So anyways here is the question;

Is it possible to have a model with no arms? Or at least possible to have a model with no visible arms, and which will only appear to have hands (althought ideally, I was hoping it would be possible to have a model with seemingly disembodied hands, and that only visible body parts could take damage)? I'm very new to this, and at this point only have experience in modeling.

So any input from someone who knows would be very helpful and appreciated.

Thanks for reading

I think the model would work fine, I dont see any reason why it wouldnt. You would bind the body and the hands to the same skeleton rig, so you wouldnt be able to make the hands look floaty or anything, since you would still have an elbow joint in the rig but no geometry there. Hitboxes I'm less sure about. I'm sure there is a way, but it may or may not be difficult. Hopefully someone else here can answer that question for you.

Hi Krynn, thanks a lot for the reply! That really sets my mind at ease, I was afraid for a second that all the work I had put into my first few models had been a waste.

I'm guessing hit boxes determine where damage can be taken, but even if that is a problem, and that problem can't be solved, I would be happy with the models being playable in game.

I think you specify each hitbox individually, so if I'm right you could just not put any hitxboxes where the arms should be.
