In a recently released trailer of Ao2, at the very beginning, in the very background footage of the burning North tower can be seen.
Are you okay with that?
This is fairly critical, I bet there will be some inquiery on the behalf of the victims' families about why they post such footage as part of "entertainment" media.
I mean, I've been watching the towers collapse for several dozen times and counting over the last few weeks, I also listened to Kevin Cosgrove's call once, because I got caught by it "off guard", but having this in a GAME is not very correct. I bet they'll have to make excuses, cut the cutscene (lol) or anything, if anybody should notice the footage...

in what context is the WTC used in the trailer ..is it:

"omg, the terrorwrists attacked america, therefore we need guys in hockey masks to avenge us"

or

"omg 9/11 was a conspiracy and these two muscle bound freaks are going to kill alex jones"

or

"hooray for terrorists"

Hmm, I still gotta watch the whole trailer. As far as I know, it's more in the lines of a conspiracy themed matter, because of issues about the military industrial complex and mercenary agencies involved in the story of the game, I just felt the need to post this poll right away, once I realized those actually were the towers.
First off, I just heard screams, thought "hell, once the EA-are-****wits-logo vanishes, there must be some alien invasion and what-not, then, first frame opens up, it pops straight into my eyes (or rather, my brain) and stabs 'em out like bleeding, THE TOWERS. I look at it a second time, my left eye, which I just barely managed to close in time, gets stabbed, too: TEH TWOERZ. Two minutes later, I landed here.

//edit: update! Yeah, it's about covert ops. That's halfway conspiracy-themed, although it's about "omg, parachute into Hindukush and take out teh missilez taht freaten amercia...ameriac.. ah damnit, lol."

It's a culturally relevant event, and many games attempt to be culturally relevant. We not only remember, but relive conflicts such as Pearl Harbor in many video games, but the sad fact is that most people alive during tragedies of the past aren't here to complain. Inevitably, future generations will plaster 9/11 over every form of media without protest, hell, I'm sure they'll escape the towers in a videogame. Ironically, in our generation, anything portraying 9/11 is an incredibly sensitive issue, even though we've been instructed thousands of times to "never forget."

Yeah it depends in what context.
If you're going to use it as an excuse to go on a killing rampage then it's disrespectful.
Otherwise it's a grey area.

It could even be used educationally, it would take you one step closer to being able to empathise with the people who were involved on that day and understand what must have been going through their minds. That's as long as it's not for propaganda purposes.

Hmm, I'm thinking differently here, I must admit...But anyway, if I were a family member of ye first responders/firefighters, terrorists, people who died in the planes of course and those who died in wtc 1, 2 and 7 (might suprise you to hear that, but from what I know, the story 7 was evacuated before any harm could be done to it is a fraud), then I'd say that by any standards, turning this into a fps isn't a really good option to be concidered when intending to honour the dead, therefore all kinds of people will lunge at this game and try to stop the development of the current game's campaign and demand something different, that won't insult anybody.

I think, honouring is sharing a deep moment with the families and those who got hurt themselves, those people in new york, the psychological and emotional pain is immense, but that does not share anything at all when talking about the fallen in front of somebody who would find it personally offensive, as if it wasn't a great deal to mourn for.

So.... what about when we visit Normandy in all of these WWII games? Is that any different?

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn. If I can blow up cool shit with other cool shit and do this shit with some shit in the air and shit and all this shit exploding with a bunch of shit everywhere well...shit. Awesome.

It's no more disrespectful than the mountains of WW2 games we have.

It's also Satanic because it's a game where you kill demons.

Wait a minute, wouldn't that m.... Nevermind! :-S

It's the secret Satano-Christian agenda to preserve demons so that they may one day rule us. If they were to indeed exist.

Who gives a damn when you can shove tampons into your comrade's open gunshot wounds while being shot at?

It depends entirely on context. As we don't know that yet, it's premature to comment. The towers' mere appearance in a game is hardly in itself exploitative.

Agreed. Its no worse than WW2 games that show real footage of people being injured/killed...

I think it was exploitative for them to appear in MS Flight Sim 2000.

You must've missed the part where Microsoft recalled all the copies of FS2002 and delayed release for 2 months so they could remove the WTC from each individual copy...

You can't remove the WTC from each individual copy.
You destroy the originals and start again.

Wow. FoxDie just owned the whole thread.

Not interested. Can we talk about something else now?

game looks like a bad company ripoff without the shitty dialog.
