Army to deploy robots that shoot

Sounds cool. Humans will probably always be necessary in those situations to do certain things, but that will help get them off of some simpler tasks that take up time by putting this out, saving time and most importantly lives.

Although there's the danger of what happens if captured. Is reprogramming or anything a danger? :X I just pictured HL2's

Nova Prospekt turrets turning against their masters when Alyx reprogrammed them

Soon, soon my Master... the carbon-based fleshsacks will feel the wrath of the Machin-

Crap, stupid Inner Monologue Protocol failed on me again :(

The biggest steps in robotics will be AI- remote controlled killing machines will be a staple of every developed armed force in just a few years I'd bet, but semi-independant war machines would be the dawn of something revolutionary. And pretty worrying, come to think of it.

yes that would be quite frightening

So they can shoot, but can they hit?

Yeah, I read another article on them saying something about the control system...some "advanced computer network" named "Skynet". I wonder what that's all about :cheese:

CHRIST!!! THAT WAS IN A MOVIE!!!

we've got to stop them before they launch nuclear missiles!

Well, it's not AI, it's remote control. So I assume that would depend on the person controlling it.

Looks like FPS skills might actually come in handy with all that acquired hand and eye coordination.

I wonder what kind of judgement they would have. Would they shoot a 5 year old child with a toy gun?

Once again, it's not AI, it's a human controlling it.

there was some guy on the news awhile back who, while holding hostages, used a homemade robot that looked similar to that but had a small "finger" and a mounted rifle to attack the police. It shot at one officer but no injuries, as the camera wasnt mounted well.
