hi, wen i run 3dmark03 on the pixel shader 2.0 part, on the sort of outlines of the rhino and elephant there are little white dots. i tried to take a screen shot using fraps but for some reason it did not work so do these sound like artifacts to anyone?

Artifacts are screen errors, usually caused by a malfunctioning graphics card (or overclocking one too far).

I don't think that the white dots are artifacts.

Buggy graphics in 3Dmark, then?

Who knows, 3DMark in general is evil :) but yeah, the first time I saw them I thought they were artifacts.. but, I've since had two different graphics cards, and I know better :)

Never seen these white dots. Crystel clear :)

Anyway, artifacts are black boxes etc, and lines flashing/staying on the screen.

I get artifacts everywhere. I am on a radeon 7000 ve that i had to modify because they built it the wrong size for normal cases. I get red speckles on black on websites when scrolling and in games its unbeleivable how many dots and shit there are lol.

I'm stuck with my radeon 9600xt on a shelf because my motherboard still hasnt made it(paretns fault) (2 mos after i got my radeon 9600xt)

P.S. For those who know/care 7000 is the first radeon! I've been with them since the start :)

Another P.S. It's really cool because i can tell which programs use BitBLT to copy and move images on teh screen. Most of the screensavers do and so does IE.

I removed the front metal bar thing that plugs into the case, put another on. And i also replaced a memory chip they had on it(it was in a removable thingy)

Did you research it first? The upgrade could be the reason for at least some of the artifacts, if the card wasn't designed to handle the chip you put in...

Not true, artifacts can be from white dots, black dots, corrupted textures, random colors, extruding lines from polygons, etc.

I know why I have artifacts. While modifiying the case connector thing my rotozip slipped and cut into a little but of wiring but only 1 wire. Now i'm getting static on the wire from an unknown source but i deal with it instead of fixing it.

btw I almost never need help unless working with macs, dells, gateways, sometimes linux, or unix. :)

It's not corrupted text.
It is boxes showing up instead of the pixel requested. It's a safety geature that prevetns your card from crashing. You may want to thank artifacts :)

I always just called those white dots "pixel errors".

And i thought artifacts were those big ass weird looking shapes corrupting the graphic feed.

Both of those are artifacts, as Shuzer said.

Things that are not artifacts.....
1. Full screen "artifacts"
2. Full Screen Pixel Shaders wo/ a card that supports them.
3. 8 bios beeps on startup
4. Crack in screen of monitor. btw duck.
5. Screen lag
6. Those strange items you can pick up in that one gay game.

Hahahahahahahahahaha!

I tried to overclock my Powercolour card, and at one point I got this weird big aquamarine mesh shape right over the overclocking panel. So I clicked "Previous settings". Weird.

My card is strange. It doesn't seem to want to overclock too much... even up to normal speeds (it's underclocked). Could this be a driver problem, a heat problem, or is Rage3D tweak screwing up?
