finally some details on Assassin's Creed (PC/xbox360/ps3):
- set during the crusades ..it will use historical events as a backdrop
- open ended world
- 3 major cities with countryside in between
- over 60 npc on screen at once
- a sort of bullet time when using Altair's main weapon ..all kills are close quarters, no sniping ..all in broad daylight
- cities will have multiple levels so that you can make your escape
- RPG elements where you'll be able to upgrade skills, weapons, clothing etc
- from a screen I saw (hud/control scheme) and from some information in the article it seems that the game is told from the perspective of someone in the future ..could the game also have other time lines you play in? perhaps future assassin creed games will have different time line ettings ..keep the series fresh rather than more of the same old same old (like splinter cell)
btw here's the HUD/control scheme that looks sort of futuristic

here's the preview
