Asus..you seem to know quite a bit on hardware and software problems so here it goes. Remember me?? I stated I bought a Radeon X850 XT, and now I'm having problems with HL2. The weird thing is...HL2 is the only game having the problems. Every other graphics intense game runs smoothly, Like BF2 and Doom 3. What the hell could be wrong?? Basically Half-life 2 is giving me multiple errors like "the file at ********x******* could not be read." The game then closes...that happens every time I change resolution. Also it gives me another error like "initshaderscouldnotberead". Also the game freezes while I'm playing it. All of these errors are classified as Engine Errors. I have no idea what the hell is going on but I though you might give me a couple things to try. I've reinstalled DirectX, I've reinstalled my Video Card drivers, I've moved my soundcard to a different PCI slot (that's what the steam support thing said to do if it freezing with looping sounds), And I reinstalled half-life 2. Nothing worked. Could you possibly give me some help with this one?? Thanks.

Since it happens only with HL2 then I doubt it's an issue such as removing the card and putting it in a different slot or heat etc. It would be more like the GFX driver version you have is giving you issues or you need to change your GFX settings to default or let it autodetect for you. When you change video settings in HL2, close the game and relaunch it.

What GFX card do you have? Can you take a screen shot of your gfx settings in HL2 and also in display properties within windows (The Nvidia or ATI tab for 3D settings)?

My Graphic card is an ATI Radeon X850 XT 256MB AGP.

Here is the screenshot of the settings on HL2.

I have ATI catalyst so I'll just type out my settings for you:

Ant-Alising is on: Let the Application decide

Anisotropic filering: Let the Application decide

Catalyst A.I.: Is on standard

Midmap Detal Level: High Quality

Trueform: Always off

VSYNC: Off unless the application specifies

That's it. If I misunderstood what you wanted, tell me and I'll get the right stuff. Thanks for helping. :D

also why do you have vertical sync enabled?

My graphics card can handle VSYNC. I doubt that's the problem, cause when I turn everything down and play it, it still freezes.
