ATI 9600 SE questions

Hi,
My brother got me an ATI 9600 SE. He told me that it was the most prefered video card to have for HL2. I've been told it sucks. Is this true? And if it is why is it the most prefered for HL2?

he mean preferred cause its ATI, not cause its 9600 se. I have a 9600 se in my old comp and they arent that bad. It runs CSS good so prolly HL2 as well. Plus it overclocks fairly good. I wouldnt be unhappy if someone just gave it to me. Also what card do you have now?

from my own equipment i can get smooth play on 1024x768 with everything on high, reflect all, and 4xAA, Trilinear filtering - looks awesome - the se is a bit below that though, i'd expect to have to drop the AA to get smooth playback, or possibly to 2x, i don't really know, suffice to say you won't do too bad i'd have thought

youll be fine with that card, hell... for free that wouldnt be bad..a little oc there are you got your self a 9600 pro maybe

I had a GeforceFX 5600, but I just installed the ATI 9600 SE. Gonna have to tes it out now
