I got a Radeon 9800xt video card with 256 mb. I installed it and got drivers, and it is acting very wierd. There is a green stripe down the screen. I can't even start Half-Life2.
speed: 2676 Mhz

RAM: 990 Mb

Thats a screenshot of what the desktop is doing. If someone can help it would e appreciated. This is really pissing me off.

its called artifacting , which results from overheating or a dying card.

So theres nothing I can do besides buy a new card?

God damnit

Has the warrenty run out? If so, you'll have to buy a new one.

Wait until some good Vista drivers come out.

Or... something. I don't know, take one of our suggestions. They're bound to work.

1) Do you have another PC you can try it in?
2) Sure the drivers are good? Use Driver Cleaner Pro to remove lingering files from previous drivers.

3) Whats the Screen Rez @?
4) Are you sure the monitor is not bad? Mine was and looked EXACTLY like that Screen Shot. The green stripe and everything.
5) How hot is the card running at? Is the fan on? Heatsink attached securly?
6) Check the clock speeds. Stock speeds for an ATI 9800XT are 365/824. Download ATI Tray Tools to check the speeds. http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733
7) Did you try to mod the card? Flashed the Bios?

Let us know.

go NVIDIA next time

LOL.. he could do that as well I guess... Though, before I got my 6800 Ultra, I used a 9800Pro for a couple years. Amazing card.

You don't know what that is? It's the Matrix!

Everything seems fine with the card. My monitor is fairly new. An Acer Plug and Play monitor. I run my res at 1024/768

Ok, I uninstalled and tried again. But the driver disk is not working, and when i scroll it is very choppy. What should I do for that...?

The reason it's choppy, is because the 3D acceleration built into the card, has not been activated. IT is activated once the driver gets installed. You say the driver CD does not work? Then download the drivers here. From the screen shot, it looks like you are on Vista? Do you have the 32 or 64 bit version? Make sure you know before you install the correct Video Card Driver. I have linked to both the correct drivers below. The below drivers are for every version of Vista. From the Home Basic Edition to the Ultimate edition.

Windows Vista 32 Bit Version
http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista32/common-vista32.html

Windows Vista 64 Bit Version
http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista64/common-vista64.html

Download the correct driver for the verison you have and then install the driver once it's finished downloading. It might prompt you to reboot. If it dose not, reboot anyways, only after the driver has finished installing. Once your PC reboots, allow it up to a minute to finalize everything. At which time, the 3D Acceleration should now be active and the choppyness should be gone.

Let me know how it goes.

His theme looks like XP with a Vista style.

Unless he is using a beta (Which I thought were deactivated ages ago), the retail versions have the rounded start menu button.

I'm just running Royale Noir theme for XP. I have Service Pack 2

Do I install it to the default area? I have and restarted it and no results. What exact directory should it be in?

I still need help with the display 7.3. I've installed it and restarted about 5 times. With no avail. I can't even test direct3d.
