ATI CATALYST 4.2 Drivers Released

One day after I reinstalled my catalyst drivers due to some weird lag.. bah..

The game Half-Life is now displayed properly under Windows XP when the game resolution is set to either 320x240 or 400x300

Kinda funny.. who, with a graphics card, runs HL at 320x240?

So does anyone know if its worth installing then?

Anyone got a link to the fixes in this one?

Ta!

Didn't they release the 4.1s just a few days ago?

I think I'm running 3-point-somethings now... Are there any significant performance increases?

Yeah I only just installed 4.1 heh, I'm just looking forward to the one that fixes the errors with XSI and Lightwave, at that point I wont upgrade drivers anymore, in fear of them not working right :)

The 4.2 supposibly give a 15% performance increase in UT2k3.

Hey, fellas: It says on the ATI site that one should only update one's drivers if one is having trouble... Truth or sillyness?

Brian Damage you sound like something from royalty there lol

and yeah, i guess its true, if it ain't broke don't fix it. It's not like security patches, so if its working fine for you then there's no need to upgrade

Though from talking to you via email it sounds that XSI problem is global regarding ATI cards... Bit silly really what with the ATI, Valve, Softimage teaming up

I tried installing the new drivers and got a ton of errors, hasnt happened with an ati driver install before.
however the performance gains are for the 9600 range, having a 9800 pro it doesnt really affect me.

One apologises for sounding like a member of the United Kingdom's Royal Bloodline.

Wouldya prefer it if I yakked on like I'm doin' now?

*cough* never stopped you before *cough*

hehe :D
much love, you know Im just messing wit choo'

I got about 100 points more in 3dmark 2003 with the new drivers...

I know, plus UT2K4 demo seems more smooth then with 3.9's, and thats with AA at 4x and AF at 8x, when with the older drivers I had both off.

They say that because people sometimes cause more problems by installing them ans screwing up or having a backup system really screw with the installation...

-someone earlier in thread.

It is always best to have the latest drivers because small software bugs in the drivers are sometimes fixed that pertain to certain games or many different subjects and sometimes processing code is re-wrote for better speed. Actually there are many more types of updates but anyway you get my point.
