Hey guys, Best Buy is having a sale for ATI RADEON 9600 PRO 128MB for only $180 with a $ 20 mail in rebate.... I was wonder, should I get it? I mean will it max out HL2 do you think? I have 2.1 GHZ and 512 mbs of Ram, right now i am using a GeForce 3 3000 and not sure if that will max out my HL2... HELP ME GUYS! Thanks in advance!

I wanna know also. I am probably gunna get it, great value for a 128mb card

Dont flame, Seriously wanna know

Hey cool, yea no flaming it is a really good deal compare to the 9800 for like $300 and 9800 PRO for like $350 - $400!

Generally speaking, $180 for a lower-end DX9 card isn't a very good deal. You can get a Radeon 9700 online for a little over $200 (http://www.gameve.com/store/gameve_viewitem.asp?idproduct=708&showit=1), or a Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB for $130 (http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/simprod.asp?pid=7472&ad=pwatch)

The 9600 pro is decent, but, I'd suggest chipping in a little more for atleast a 9700, it'll last you longer before having to upgrade again

If the 9600 pro is all you can afford, then go for it, it won't let you down, but there are better options for a few more bucks

I'd definitely recommend atleast getting a 9600 pro. The GF3 Ti300 is a tad dated now (I upgraded from a Ti300 to a Radeon 9700), and will definitely be a little low-end for HL2

With a 2.1GHz, whether you get a 9600 pro, or anything better, HL2 should run great, hope this helps :)

Edit: Just thought I'd say that I have a 9700 Pro, and, it has yet to let me down, great card, worth every penny =)

wrong forum!! hehe sorry, i always wanted to say that, i have the geforce ti 4600 it came with my comp, i have had no problems, but seemslike everyone wants a radeon, so go ahead.

I didn't even knew they made a 9700.... well thank you very much, now i have to look into it.. just no 9800's for me! Thanks again!

Shuzer you linked to a non-pro 9600.

But you canj get a 9600 pro for $140, never buy computer components at Best Buy unless you wished to be ass-raped by price inflation.

Never buy anywhere but online unless there is some amazing sale.

lol.. the R300 was like the new begining of ATi, or as you'd say, resurrection.

Well, if you get powercolor, make sure you get the the Bravo version. the standard powercolor 9600pro (usally cheaper than other 9600pros) has underclocked memory (400/200 intease of 400/300)

I was set to pick up a 9600pro, but in the end got the 9800pro. Alot more then I wanted to spend but when I thought about it, it just made sense. Halflife will probably be one of the last games that the 9600pro will run with almost max detail at a decent frame rate. All the reviews were saying even overclocked it can't match the 9500pro, and when doom 3 and newer games come out this fall and spring, forget it. Im big into FPS, and I hate having to turn half the shit off in games. Plus it'll last alot longer. If you need a card now, get the 9600pro but if you can wait until prices drop get the 9800pro or try and find a 9700pro.
