Ya, you know at the ATI official site...it's $342.36 CDN(Canadian)I did all the math myself and it seems like a good price...I don't care about the Half-Life 2 -get-one-soon offer... I was wondering is it better than the nVidia GeForce 4 Ti4600 & GeForce Ti4800 I want something that'll let me run UT2k4 like crazy.
Is it a good deal?
If I save up and get it-I'll have a:
Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz
512 MB ram
Radeon 9600XT 128MB ram...
UT2k4 will run better than UT2k3 did and
with a AMD AthlonXP 1800+, 256 MB ram GeForce Ti4600 UT2k3 ran better on it better than my computer...
So if I get this...will my FPS be increased greatly?

Wait for the new cards to come out, all cards will become ALOT cheaper then.

i have a 9600 pro and can run ut 2004 on 1280 by 1024 wit everything maxed but i have a better processer and ram

By about $30 USD...

Weird, over here the 9600XT comes in around 350$NZ, whereas the 9800 Pro starts around 6-700 :|

Yeah, anyone thinking on the 9600XT, should really think twice... The cheapest 9800 Pro is $215 on Newegg. 9600XT is $151. It IS a pretty big difference if your budget is tight, but the 9800Pro is VERY VERY VERY worth it over the 9600XT.

Hmm... and it won't bottleneck too bad on my AMD 2200+ XP? Worth considering if I find a decent price...

None of the cards will bottleneck the CPU. Nobody can really know which is the best. If we consider the US prices, the 9800Pro is definetly worth it, cause the majority of the new games are probably gonna handle ALOT better on the 9800 generation than 9600, thus it will last longer. My 9700Pro is still almost keeping up with a 9800, whereas the 9500 get left behind. You will probably be able to draw paralells to that in the future, where the 9800 will be able keep up with the newer generation much better than the 9600.
(note, the differences will of course be bigger due to a new core and not just an overhaul. Its still better though)

Many *probably* though ;)

I'm getting a 9800 pro now + I looked at some benchmarks and the 9800 pro was at most 10-20fps behind the 9800 XT so it seemed a wise choice (i can cope with knocking down a few details to regain that difference :))

The 9800XT is just a 9800Pro with a strapped on heatsensor anyway (which btw doesnt alter fanspeed or anything, it just checks the temp) :)
You can easily overclock it yourself to make up those 10-20 fps, and more.

Now that's odd, all the New Zealand retailers I look at have 9600XT at around $350, then 9800 Pro at $800 upwards, and 9800XT and the 256mb range at $1000 up to around $1200. I'm scared mommy...

hell yes.

I have my 9800 Pro OC'd artifact free to 437core/371memory using a VGA Silencer cooler.
That's plenty faster than the default 9800XT speeds.
