I've a problem with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128 MB) video card. My computer can run windows fine on the older CATALYST drivers such as 3.7 and below, but anything higher such as the 3.9 or 3.10 CATALYST drivers, my computer will just freeze (monitor goes off, sound repeats.. causing me to restart) at any random moment. With the older drivers, I can play games for about a minute and then my monitor goes off and sound repeats, etc: freeze. I'm thinking about purchasing a higher power supply (Antec TrueBlue 480), right now it's a "Maxpower" 300W power supply. This came with the barebone system I purchased, and I've heard that some poor power supplies will cause system instability with these newer ATI cards.
Specs:
Soyo K7ADA V1.0 Motherboard (two small fans running inside, one being the heatsink fan)
"Maxpower" 300W Power Supply
AMD Athlon XP 1900+ (1600 MHz) Processor
Windows XP Professional (SP1 + All updates)
512 MB DDR RAM (One PNY 256 MB stick, One ULTRA 256 MB stick)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB (Built by ATI) Video Card
Creative Audigy 2 Sound Card
Maxtor 45 GB Hard Drive
Xtasy CD-RW Drive
That's pretty much all that's in there, removed my floppy drive. (I see no use for it!) I've tried a few CATALYST options such as disabling fastwrite, still freezes. Reformatted a few times also.
Anyways, if someone could tell me for sure if it's my power supply or not that'd be great. Thanks!
