ATi Radeon X600 SE Hypermemory 256MB

it said it has 128mb on-board memory and 128mb shares from system ram

is there any way to disable the card from getting ram from system?

do you own this card or are you thinking of buying this card? If you own it, check in teh bios for any settings that determine the amount of ram it uses from system. I may be wrong in saying this, but don't the cards with hypermemory require the additional system ram to operate?

well i dont own it yet but i wanna know if its possible.. anyways if i did will 128mb vcard enough to run SOURCE? CS

yes it will. My X300 runs it fine.

is there any visual difference between X300 and X600

i heard its just 1FPS difference =(

the X600 will perform very noticably better if compared with the X300.
shared memory is no good if you're using slow memory, or if you dont have enough free memory on your pc.
my X700 never dissapointed me (until i broke the monitor, panicked and blamed the radeon) i can play HL2 on max graphics at about 90fps at 1024 X 768 res. which was a lot more than i bargained for. i only expected a cheapish simple mid-range graphics card to work until i can get a better one. but by the way this runs im keeping it!!!

is x600 performance close to x700 ??

note that my x600 is shared....

i beleive the X600 has 128MB on board memory and the option to share up to another 128mb. the X700 has 256 mb on board. lets have a look then.

this is what they usually run at-ish

X700
256mb ram (GDDR3)
memory speed 2X350 mhz (700mhz effective)
graphics core speed 400mhz
pixel pipelines 8

X600
128mb ram (DDR)
memory speed 2x275 mhz (550MHz effective)
graphics core speed 400mhz
pixel pipelines 4

it will definatly struggle with titles like doom 3, the four pixel pipelines wont help it at all

not sure how well you will be able to run source though. you should definately get a nice framerate if you leave it on source's reccomended settings. what card are you using at the moment?

edit: it will definately run source, and will look rather nice too. just dont expect to have it set tp maximum full blown graphics and have it running smoothly. it will run well on mid to high settings i would assume

right now im on a laptop
p4 3.0GHZ
512mb
ATi RAdeon 7500 32MB

i played cs:s .. i could tell its quite a horrible expierience

i just hope it wont be like that on the new computer i ordered.. with x600

anyways is 128mb vram alone will be enough?

how about bf2 u got any idea?

yes, for a card of that performance the extra 128 wouldn't increase performance noticably because the card wouldn't be fast enough to take advantage of the extra memory, much like my 9600Pro 256MB

it's the pixel pipelines that'll hurt you:(

what is that.... can we have a deeper explanation.. im so newb
I'm not 100% sure but i think it's a measure of the number of simlutaneous pixel calculations the card can do, the high end cards have 16, think of it like pipes trying to drain water from a resevoir, the more pipes you have the more water can be carried at the same time, analagously the number of pixel pipelines means that the card with more can draw more triangles per second

i think:rolling:

uhm ok b4 i sleep i wanna know if it runs this time on..

battlefield 2
empire earth 2

I should run those games. Although X600SE<X600 by quite a bit.

it will run BF2 but it wont be the fantastic.

you shouldnt have any prob with EE2 though

anyway compared with your current card you wont be dissapointed one bit with the X600 :)

i visited different forums and i read about people saying that X300/X600 sucks

is it that really horrible?

no, dont talk to bigheaded techno freaks with their dual SLI Geforce 7800s.
if you REALLY want good bang for your buck X700 for teh win
the X600 isnt too far below it! it will be alot nicer than ur current card. and im sure you wont be dissapointed

have a nice day!! :)

X600 isn't bad, X600SE is considerably slower than the X600 however.

Yeh, and aren't the 6600gt's around the same price but better than the x600/700s?
That is, unless, you are of Ati persuasion and foolishly want to stick with them when there is an obviously better card from Nvidia.

It will do fine for now, but RAM doesn't always carry a vid card, bf2, for example, you'd get away with it (cos it's a RAM bitch) but if you can save an extra 100 you'd be better off.
