This is the only card i can afford right now but im not sure if it can run the latest games like BF2/DOD:S/CS:S. Can anyone help me?

i would go for 6600gt over that because the x700 is basically a 9800 in pci-e format

Well i have all my previous ati drivers/control panels set up so i don't want my computer settings to go crazy with an NVidia card.

You can always use driver cleaner, or go real crazy(like I did when I got my X800 Pro) and format the drive and start again.

Aha i got a x700 in my new computer too... stingy bastards!!!

It has created a bottleneck in my lovely 3.6 gHz 2 Gigs of ram sweet machine...

Oh well... can't wait till i get some christmas money

I still have my ATI X700 Pro 256Mb PCI-E card, but you don't want to hear that, you want to know how it runs games. I had it paired with a 3.4Ghz Pentium 4, 1Gb Dual Channel RAM, and the card itself of course. It ran Day of Defeat Source at 1024 x 768 2xAA and 16xAF with HDR on FULL of course, at a steady 50 framerates, which is very very nice. CS:S runs at the same settings at about 70 Framerates, though strangely it ran at an even 80 at 1280 x 1024, which I found odd, it runs CS:S w/ HDR on FULL(de_nuke of course) good too. If you're asking however about Call of Duty 2 and FEAR, it ran those sub-par. By sub-par I mean FEAR at 800 x 600 with mostly High settings and shadows on Medium at a good 50 framerates as well, some people however like games to look the best even if they know their pc can't handle them, such as FEAR on 1024 x 768 and get 20 framerates, but they wont sacrafice picture quality over framerates, there again, personal preference. Call of Duty 2 runs on Normal/High settings at 800 x 600 WITH DirectX 9 enabled of course at a steady 50 framerates again, dropping to the low 40's at times. Of course if you're not a maniac graphics guru, you'll turn it down to DirectX 7 and be able to run at 1280 x 1024 2xAA w/ 40 framerates evenly. I've done quite a bit of testing with my old setup, before I got this. I'd recommend a 6600GT from either eVGA or XFX as stated before, you'll be getting more bang for your buck. Enjoy :)

the 6xxx series rocks - its much better than ATI's x series
bite the bullet and go nvidia

Right, i have an ATi Radeon X600 Pro 128Mb RAM, is this pretty much the same as the X700?

Also thinking about an upgrade after Christmas, probably £150 range. Suggestions welcome

Not at all, not even close, the x600 is far from the x700. It's more close to the 9600SE, which is a very low budget card today.

Ouch! So an upgrade is recommended for me to play future games well. Like UT07....i'm starting my search....

Kthx for being so one sided on this subject. :|

Is my powersupply good enough to hold the card? It says:
output +12v
250W MAX
+3.3v
is that enough power?

This might give you an idea. All of those cards in one chart.

And the X600 Pro i very similar to the X700 pro just lower clock speed. The 9600SE is at the bottom of the chart. Just an FYI. ;)
And I would recommend upgrading the PowerSupply to 300Watt or more just so you don't have any issues. It may run on the 250Watt and you could try it if you are on a limited budget.

Also im not sure if my motherboard is compatible with an Nvidia card, is there any way to test it?
it's a p4 3ghz, it was able to handle my radeon 9700 pro pretty well.

If the card is AGP it will work.

yes it will work the only thing that needs to be compatible is the interface not the company

Well i just bought a evga 6600GT AGP so time to download this driver cleaner and see what happends.

i own a PNY 6600 gt and i got it for $100 after rebate. But i had to change my power supply to 400 W. i was playing Lost Coast with HDR on and i nearly pooped in my pants, cuz it was the most beautiful graphics i saw in my life.

It says my power supply isn't powerful enough to run the card adn said that it would auto adjust so it would work decently and i had a problem installing the driver becuase it would freez in the middle of the installation and say that the program wasn't windows logo certified so i just went to Evga.com and downloaded a driver there. Now when i play games i get 9 fps. Is it becuase of the powersupply or driver? Is replacing powersupplis difficult? how much for a decent one?

Ok, do not mean to sound like an asshole, but I must, Are you an idiot sir? He said he has an AGP board, meaning AGP cards. Do you see the letteres PCI-E in AGP? No. He already stated as well he got the eVGA 6600GT, a great card that was recommended, enjoy :)

You'll need to plan a budget, and plan on going PCI-E. Otherwise a high end AGP card will do fine.

My mobo supports PCI-E so i'll probably go for that. Will have to look in detail after xmas, but £200 top limit probably, but may push it for a good card.

Anyone got any suggestions for a UK site?
