Hey all. I tried searching these forums for an answer but I was unsuccessful, but will HL2 support Trueform? I don't know if this has been answered yet, but I am sorry.
:borg:

Don't think it's been announced officially but I'd expect it to since valve and ati seem to have worked together a lot to help eachother get the most from their respective products.

probably not as the radeons9500 and higher don't support this fully in hardware anymore

trueform = vaporware

meaning useless now...
back it was pretty usefull to smooth out those blocky 3d models. now its useless because the newer games wont have blocky models. so now ati doesnt support it as much.

but hl2 will have 3dc, which is a ati thing.

Think it curved edges. x84 pretty much sums it up though.

it was used to add more polygons to low poly models.

but really only worked properly with the 8X00 series of radeons. with the 9X00 series (or just 9500 and above) it isn't built in, so all the rendering is done through software. creating alot of lag

and to sum it up, it looks retarded now

What's 3dc?

It works in UT2k4, and looks rather damn good. Does cut into the frames per second quite a bit, though.

I use it all the time on Morrowind. Coupled with other features of FPS Optimiser and the game looks amazing.

TruForm was a bust much like Intel's MMX command set and AMD's 3DNow. It just wasn't worth developer's time and energy to support an obscure feature with questionable benefits that only a handful of their customers would be able to take advantage.

9800 pro runs HL with trueform and patches on highest, fine for me.

it meshsmoothes a model is all (like in 3dsmax selecting something and applying a mesh smooth modifier onto it)

nothing major.. in fact its rather gimmicky... models lose their "feel" sometimes, because they become generically rounded. (which isnt always a good thing)
when you first see it, its like.. thats nice.
then its irritating and you disable it :p

We don't know if Valve's Source engine has Truform support.
If it has, it'll be great for ATi users.
Truform IMPLEMENTED CORRECTLY can surely make a difference.
Take a look at Morrowind for example:

arent you..

aren't you in the planetdoom forums with the same or similar name?? just curious

I dont like trueform, you would need a bloody high reso and clean model to get a good effect, its just like those kiddies that meshsmooth low poly models and think it looks better.

like i said...its vaporware.

hl2 models dont look blocky what so ever, nor do alot of new games...so why use it now.
