ATI's Lineup

Sorry, im fealing tardish today but I haven't been keeping up to date with the latest offerings from ATI and I was just wondering what the stance is with the lineup they have on offer.

Can someone give it to me in simple terms where this new x800 is, performance wise, compared to the 9800 Pro and XT ( better/worse pros/cons )

Sure, to put it this way the x800 pro and x800 xt each kick ass.

X800 Pro: 12 pixel pipes roughly a 9000 3dmark03 score (cant remember the exact number) (msrp $399)

X800 XT: 16 pixel pipes, about a 12000 in 3dmark03 (msrp $499)

They both kick the crap out of the 9800 pro and xt. And for $400 you cant beat a x800 pro

The X800 Pro is approximately 2 times faster than the 9800 XT. The X800XT is roughly 2.5 times faster than the 9800XT.

• Requires fast CPU (3 GHz or faster recommend for best performance)

Those are the basic pros and cons for the high-end video cards from Nvidia and ATI. In each category, the respective ATI and Nvidia offerings are neck and neck with each other. I would go with ATI right now because of their superior AA. After all, when you pay more than $400 for a video card, you should be able to enable AA and have great framerates. Make no mistake, the Nvidia offering is right behind ATI, so either of them are a great deal when the come out.

Well I just benchmarked on my X800 Pro, I got 8260 or something like that, on a 2ghz athlon, 1gb ram, and the X800 Pro. I am thinking with the newest drivers since mine are beta and 100 or 200mhz more I will pull more out of it. I still cannot get the newest drivers on that pc, the files are corrupt supposedly :-/

Oh I also went from 4k to 8k from just memory and gfx card :cheers:

Cheers guys, all that info was great. Like i said, ive been out of the loop for a bit hardware wise recently.

Just another question though, what are people buying..? I mean is anyone holding out for the XT or everyone just getting pro's at the moment. I mean 0.5times more 9800XT power is quite a bit if you ask me.

I was going to ask whats the best value for money but I don't think i'll be buying either of them untill the end of summer when prices will hopefully be down a little and half-life 2 will be nearer release, I just don't have the need for a new card this very second in time

EDIT:: To calm my nevers after just getting my £300 a week job I decided to spend some of it anyhoo, £50 on a 8x DVD writer... always wanted one

Think i'll save the rest for my comp at the end of summer and snowboarding holiday to Andora in January

Is that 2.4 as in Athlon XP 2400+ or is your processor physically running at 2.4 GHz?

If XP 2400+ check out the 9800XT (when prices fall) or maybe the X800 Pro. You won't notice much of a difference between the two because your CPU will be the bottleneck.

If your CPU is running at 2.4 GHz, check out the X800 Pro. Running an Athlon XP processor that fast should clear any CPU bottlenecks. I don't think your CPU would be fast enough to take full advantage of the X800 XT.
