If you are a fan of metal music of any kind, you owe it to yourself to check out this blazing thrash crossover band from Richmond, VA, USA: Municipal Waste. You can check out their new video here, along with info about their upcoming album on Earache Records.

Note the album cover done by none other than Ed Repka of Megadeth album cover artistry fame!

Yeah, I was watching that last night when I saw a bulletin from them on myspace. Good video.

My musical tastes might vary from classic to metal, but I really think that was really bad... IMO. The vocals were just... yelling and the drums were too obnoxious. But seriously, this is my opinion, which is not a valuable reference.

I'm not the biggest thrash fan, but they seemed kind of "meh" to me. Don't really like the vocals either. Can't say it's bad at all, just not what I'm into right now.

Yes, I have noticed from most of your posts that this might not be your thing, but I am a big fan and have been lucky enough to see these guys live a handful of times and must say they are some of the nicest guys around. The new drummer is Dave Witte from Melt Banana(among other groups) and is quite a maniac back there. I respected his talents in that group, but the whole Japanese noise-core stuff just aggravates me, so its good to see him involved here. The guitarist also has the most impressive rare and hard-to-find metal collection EVER--I thought of the most obscure bands I could think of and he has something by them, mostly on vinyl, but still kick-ass!

I am glad you guys have all given it a chance at least! I, for one, love being exposed to new music, perchance I really connect with it in some way.

If you want to hear Dave Witte drum in a (mostly) serious band, check out Discordance Axis (split up). They are/were a grind band, but most of their stuff is well written and fairly dense with nice riffs. They had their own spin on grind 'wackiness' and wrote songs about computer games and anime occasionally.

I will check out Municipal Waste and maybe post comments after if I think have anything worthwhile to say.

Update - wow, very not my thing. Awful vocals, don't like the riffing....positives: umm, nice drum sound...?

Good call, but I find the vocal stylings of Discordance Axis to be very annoying as well. Any time that the vocal gets up in the Dani from Cradle of Filth realm of high-pitched cacophonous noise, I just can't bear it. Even Cryptopsy does it and I hate it everytime, though I really dig the music. Oh well, I guess you guys probably aren't huge fans of COC, DRI, or crossover in general then, huh? Such is life. Thanks for being diplomatic about your feelings rather than belittling. Metal fans are some of the nicest, most genuine people I have met.

EDIT: If you REALLY don't like them after listening to Toxic Revolution here, then I have done all that I can and will respectfully stop trying to force my crossover onto you all!

(Though I might bring it up now and again for those who might be interested.) :E

Meh...
Vocals seemed to just be making random noises.
Sick drumming, average riffs...

3 out of 5.

Thread ressurection I know, but I got news yesterday that Municipal Waste are playing in Birmingham on the 17th October in support of Send More Paramedics. SMP are okay, not great, but awesome live. But I was shaking with excitement when I heard MW were supporting. I can't ****ing wait.

I remember they toured alot with Bungle and Primus in the early 90's...If memory serves.

Listening now....

Meh...

*Puts Slayer On*

Just got the Waste's new album and it effing rips, but its nothing compared to the craziness of their live shows--you are in for an awesome time! I've seen them 5 times here in the states and every show has more intensity than the last! They're touring with Converge when they get back, so I can't wait to see one of those shows!

FYI: If you want to hear samples from the whole blazing record, click here.

I've heard some good stuuf about the new album, I had a look for it last weekend but found nothing. I shall have to order it this week sometime, as I imagine some stuff will be played off at the gig and I want to enjoy every song.

Again, I can't wait. ;D

Samples wouldn't work for me. ):

Yeah, I've only read one bad review out of a couple dozen--Every other one has been extremely positive.

The album has been surprisingly hard to find around here too in the northeast US. I actually ordered mine from Amazon.co.uk to get it before the US release date :).

The samples require Real Player to work unfortunately. I hate that program, but my old PC has it, so I was able to get an early taste of the mayhem.

The show should blow your ass out, so bring an extra pair of trousers and enjoy!!!

Yeah, I couldn't be bothered to download Real Player, so I guess its my fault I'm missing out on the samples, really. I'll download it later.. then get rid of it.

Unfortunatly, they aren't headlining. :( But at least they're on last before the main band Send More Paramedics, so they'll get better stage time than the other support bands. :D

That will be good. Just make sure to yell out a request that they play The Thing from the new album. Its my new favorite song...you'll see why when you hear it :-)

Its a pub venue, so I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get right up in they're face and say it. :D

I'm wondering what the turn out will be for people going to see Municipal Waste. The people I'm going with are going for SMP, I'm mainly for the Waste. I've never actually spoke to anyone locally thats had any intrest in them.. :\

Best way to see a show--any show! I love the intimate gathering rather than the huge venue. I saw Millencolin once in I think 1996 in Arizona and they played in the backroom of a club we normally saw all the punk shows at. No stage and they were right in front of me and maybe 7 other kids sitting on couches--it was one of the best shows ever because it was like we were all just hanging out as friends. Way cool.

Hmm, I wonder if that's because people just haven't heard of them yet or if people are over that sort of thrash. I hope its the former because this album/tour should really get the word out, not to mention the stellar reviews its gotten to date. I hear the gigs in Germany are especially popular, but metal really rules there and always has :E.

Oh definitely, small venues and centimetre high stages are the way forward. :D I could of de-tuned Jonas' guitar at The Haunted earlier this year as I was that close to him.

I think its the former, as Birmingham has its good share of thrashers (Megadeth was like a Religious Location for patch-ridden denium jacket wearers...) so most likely not many have heard them. SMP themselves are a thrash/punk band, although not great, so they may pull in some crowds. Well, who am I kidding, they will. Bigger crowd = more to enjoy MW's music and get them into them. :D

Hopefully going to Wacken next year in Germany. That alone proves its awesomeness. Well, and spawning bands like Destruction and Sodom, too, of course.

Hahaha! I saw them at CBGBs over here in the States and I was as close to him too. Great venue, disgusting toilets :-)

Sweet. Gotta get the word out so they can get some real gigs over here. In June they played the basement of a house 5 minutes down the street from where I live now. Incrediblly weird place to play, but the show rocked...although Tony's fog machine smoked the place up like crazy and for a second I felt like I was at that Great White show! Scary, but that just got everyone excited!

Don't forget Kreator and Tankard too! Tankard might actually be my favorite German band of all time, though some of Tom Angelripper's stuff is tons of fun to listen/drink to :E.

The venue they played at there, Birmingham Bar Academy, isn't too bad. Not sure on their toilets, though. :P I'm seeing them again on November 25th, a day after the mighty Destruction. Should be thrashtastic, great band live.

Haha, thats badass. :D Shame no local bands here play in basements or anything. Then again, most the local bands around here suck anyway. :(

I love Kreator, the Pleasure to Kill and Terrible Certainity albums are two of my all time best thrash albums. New one ain't too bad, either. I never got into Tankard much. I heard one of their albums, forgot the name now. It was okay, I should get some more really. I knew Angelripper got around alot with bands in Germany, but I didn't know he was part of Tankard. More reason to check them out. A freind of mine who lives in Germany went to a club where one of the members was doing to DJ'ing. That'd be pretty ****ing awesome.

Enjoy the show!!! Don't forget to post your review of it here when you get a chance!!! \m/ \m/

Holy shizzle that was good. Enjoy it? ****in' A I did. Right up front, just in front of Tony, got quite a good turn out, about 20 of us up front. 20 may not seem much, but just that was pushing the limits of the space we had at the front of the stage and main dancefloor.

My neck hurts. :( :D Thrashtastic gig, one of the best bands I have seen live, I'd say. Comes close to Anthrax.

Set-list from what I remember:

Mind Eraser
Substitute Creature
Knife Fight
Drunk As Shit (This songs about drrrriinnnnkkkiiinnnggg and getting fffucccckkkeedd!)
Terror Shark (didn't know the song as its from the new 'un, I just remember them saying it)
Toxic Revolution
Unleash the Bastards
A Forbiddon cover, which I've forgot the name of.
And an encore, too.

Man, so, so, so, good. GOT TO see them again when they come around. Best part was, was that they got the longest set! SMP came on before them, played about 5/6 songs then buggered off and let MW come on. Brutal. The other supporting bands were pretty terrible. One said they were 'jazzy emo', about as jazz as my left foot.

Nice! Glad you liked the performance! That sounds like an amazing show! They always put on an awesome thrash attack live! Ryan the guitarist has one of the biggest and best metal record collections I have ever heard of and so it doesn't surprise me at all they are covering Forbidden at all. Plus he always keeps it real with old-chool Kreator shirts and such--very very cool guys all around.

Do you have their first full-length, Waste 'Em All? Hopefully you do by now if you didn't before, but when I first heard that I was blown away completely too. I only picked it up because of the artwork and pictures on the back cover--it totally looks like a crazy crossover record from the 80s! Their stuff before that is great too, but suffers from the usual horrible production quality which sucks, but thats usually the case with smaller bands. I am thankful now that they are getting some serious attention and have a great label backing them now so that they can properly take over the world!

I can't wait to see them with Converge next month!

It will deffo go near the top of my 'best live' list. :D Goddamn thrashtastic.

I fell over the stage and nearly knocked over Ryan's mic-stand as, for a while, I was directly in front of him. I could probably tab out alot of the songs now, I was watching him play most of them from about a hands distance. Again, like The Haunted, I could of easily messed around with the tunings.

I haven't got the album itself, but I have all the tracks from it sent from a guy I know from forum who happens to like them. (He likes just about every band actually) But I shall be purchasing Waste 'Em All and Hazardous asap. Well, when I have the money. I could of got it at the merchandise stall at the back of the venue, but I went overboard with my money. We got there an hour and a half early and pints were £1 so what can I say...

The merchandise stall was ALL Municipal Waste. Vinyls, all CD's, t-shirts, patches (got me three patches to add to my jacket), badges: loads! I was surprised. Apparantly, as I learned today, Municipal Waste were actually the headliners. So it wasn't a 'support band come on after main band' thing, they were actually leading the tour. Heres hoping for another, larger tour soon!
