Audio Bugs in HL1

Hey I was wondering if anyone else had the problem where CD Audio does not play in HL1. I tried putting the CD in both the CD-RW and DVD drives, but no music would play at the points it was supposed to (I know from playing HL previously on a computer with a plain old CD-ROM), however, the intro movies to HL work with the CD in though. Any suggestions?

HL1 is riddle with bugs.. what version are you running? STEAM? HL off the CD with no updates? What?

I remember the last time I played HL, I had the same problem.. but, it was a later version, the time before I played it it was a fresh install off my CD without updates, and the CD audio worked

check in the console to see if bgmvolume is at 1 not 0

Yeah, the music plays in any CD player/winamp/whatever else..

Anyhow, sounds pretty weird. Is that the version straight off the CD? Or did you update to 1.1.1.0?

1.1.1.0 is updated. Once again check the value of bgmvolume in your console.

can you play other audio cd's in your drive? IF you just built the computer you're running it on, I would make sure that you pluged the cd audio cable into your sound card.

yes I can play audio cds...I didn't build the computer though, it's a Dell (WinXPHome P4 2.4Ghz 1024MB RAM 80GB HD ATI Radeon 9700Pro 128MB)...the audio on the HL cd plays in in WMP...I tried reinstalling HL with the 1.1.0.6 drivers (I have goty edition), but to no avail. I have tried running HL in 98 Compatability mode, tried lowering audio performance, and tried change audio output to analogue...none of these things help lol....it's annoying...does HL audio work on your PC staddydaddy?

I'm not exactly sure if it does or not. I haven't played HL SP in steam yet. I will check and get back to you. Something is screwy with my cd-rom drive and xp though cause all my cd's skip/jump. on perfectly new cd's too.

BTW 1.1.0.6 refers to the build of the game, not drivers.

Would have been sweeter if I had waited to purchase my HL2 machine untill hl2 went gold. How nieeve (sp) I was to buy all this stuff before it was confirmed. Oh well It will still run well.
