I have read through the huge Audio issue thread and even posted a few times. I THINK I see a trend in how much ram someone has as to how much the workarounds have helped. I tried a number fixes and it took all the skipping/stuttering out except imediately after a loading screen where I get a slight pause but after the first few seconds I don't get stuttering anymore. I have 1Gig of RAM.

So, this is what I am asking. For those of you that HAVE TRIED these fixes listed below, has this helped or not and how much RAM do you have.

FIXES
In the config.cfg I set the following settings:
snd_mixahead "0.4"
sv_forcepreload "1"
cl_forcepreload "1"

I created an autoexec.cfg and put this line in it:
cl_smooth "0"

I went to the launch options for HL2 and put this in:
-heapsize 512000 (half my ram)

I went to the Miles Sound System website and downloaded the Miles System Tools and installed them.
http://www.radgametools.com/mssdown.htm#Miles

Removed old ffdshow filters and installed new ones (ffdshow-20041012-sse.exe for AMD athlon prosessors) http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/...se.exe?download

I DID NOT LOWER MY SOUND OR VIDEO SETTINGS.

AMD XP-M 2600+ @ 205 x 12
1Gig Ram
9800 non-pro OC'ed

Tried them *all*. Nothing helped. The only thing that made even the slightest difference was reducing the sound quality, presumably because it reduces the amount of info the game has to load on the fly. However, I'm now convinced that this is a significant game bug and needs a proper fix from the developers rather than tweaks from the end user. Even on Medium or Low quality the game is an unplayable, stuttering mess.

This makes Half-Life 2 the only game over the last five years or so where I've had significant technical problems that have effectively prevented me from playing the game. I really can't express how unimpressed, and disappointed, I am.

I think you need 2 gigs of RAM for this game to run perfect. I have 1 gig and I notice some slight sutter.

What's your AGP Aperture set to?

I've tried all those options minus the Miles sound tools, and I'm still locking up.

NOTE: It's not an audio issue, as even with -nosound 1 added to the command line, it still locks up/stutters. The audio looping or stuttering appears to be only a symptom of the actual problem.

AGP fast write is enabled as well.

Hey all, first post. Voted 1GB, fixes fixed nothing.

I was proud of my rig (3.2 P4, Audigy2, 9800pro), it was running everything I threw at it with no problems, even games others had many problems with. Until now HL2... stuuuutters both sound and graphics *sigh*. I will also put this game on the backburner and wait for a patch.
