Audio scratchy and crackly and just plain crappy in HL2

I have a creative audigy 2 ZS with updated drivers, connected to logitech X620 speakers.

My issue is that in HL2 my audio is crap. Horribly scratchy and annoying.

Oddly enough, HL2 is the ONLY game that has this issue.
No other source games or mods have this problem. CSS, HL2DM, and Plan of Attack are fine, crystal clear, etc.

The problem goes away when I switch my audio to 2 speakers or headphones. Any surround sound setup gives me this issue.

I'm at a loss as to what to do. I have updated drivers, SP2, etc. etc. etc.

HL2 is 100% up to date.

High. I set it to medium to see if it was any better (oh the irony!) but no good.

I've had this problem, except mine happened in all games, except for Garry's Mod :-\

I never figured out the problem. Tried memory upgrades. Thought it was the PSU, but its 350W, which should handle my stuff..I only had the problem after I upgraded to a better graphics card...

Either way I'm buying a better computer to fix the sound & play HL2/Lost Coast/Aftermath better than this..

I always had a lot of problems with my old computer and its Audigy 2 card. The hardware is fine but Creative makes terrible drivers. I have no idea what your problem could be but I wouldn't be surprised if it is just Creatives drivers creating the problem.

Ever since I got my new comp with on-board 7.1 sound I have never had any problems with high quality sound.

Maybe I'll find some hacked drivers of some sort, I know they exist.

Funny you mention this, when I select the "Active Marix" option on my sound system, the sound goes right out... Only game I have that does this...
