Audio/Video Problems

Hi, I recently re-installed Steam and CS:S.
I've also upgraded to a 5.1 sound card and have a beautiful and expensive set of Logitech 5.1 speakers. These speakers and the sound card work great for other games, perfect surround sound except HL2.

Thing is, HL2 automatically detects my hardware and sets the sound to 5.1. The "speaker test" option works great and the sound is coming out of each speaker properly.

However when I connect to a server I have no sound at all. Not only that, but my framerate is terrible (even with my video options turned all the way down and 640x480 resolution). Used to have silk-smooth framerate. I'm assuming the two problems are related somehow? Any ideas?

Diamond Xtreme 5.1 card
2.4GHZ Intel
nvidia geforce 4 mx 440 (yeah bad card but it ran the game fine in the past)
512mb ram

were you using an integrated card before and did you unistall the drivers from it/disable it?

I disabled the integrated card in my BIOS and this is a clean install of Windows.

I fixed this, I set my card to 4 channel mode in it's software drivers and in game, and it works great. Guess there's some glitches with 5.1 setting, I still have surround out of the 4 speakers and my sub goes off with gunshots etc so it's all good.
