This quote takes the cake;

There isn't a rating system on video games.

Really?

Films and computer games are now classified G, PG, M or MA 15+. Films can also be classified R 18+ or X 18+. R 18+ and X 18+ are not classifications for computer games.

Each classification is coloured. G is green, PG is yellow, M is blue, MA 15+ is red and R 18+ and X 18+ are both black.

Change the name from drugs...

to ADAM. Hello legalization.

"The Queen has a Wii"

Huge reaction - "I don't think the Queen has a wee!"

Will watch the rest a bit later, had to stop for the moment.

I wonder if they'd react if worldwide we got gamers to make such broad statements as "Australian Politicians are clueless ****s out of touch with reality and their own people."

I would love to see the reaction!

They can't be bothered with the implications right? Banning a game only brings more attention to it, more people get it, legally illegally. There would be far more piracy for these games, of which they would blame other factors.

All those age old politician's faces look like "lol games. How childish, how stupid, it brings violence..blah"

And does Australia really had any history of violence caused by Video Games?

Protect the kiddies.

An RA18+ rating is designed to protect the kiddies and will be far more effective than the current MA15+ enforced rating is. It's a grey area because you are meant to show ID to buy an MA15+ title anyway of course nobody actually bothers to do the checking. The same would go for R18 ratings with harsher penalties for not following this guideline.

Parents buy the games for their kids? Who cares that's the parents stupid fault and not something the government should be concerned with.

Lastly games that are refused classification are usually retooled and submitted again to acquire an MA15+ rating. The retooling in question is of the bare minimum. The end result are games that would have had an RA18+ rating get an MA15+ rating which many foolish parents probably don't think is that big of a deal. I'd think they'd change their minds when their kids asks for the box with a big black sticker with "Restricted to Adults 18 and over"

the guy with the fallout t-shirt was awesome. He KNEW that games don't cause violence. IT'S THE RETARTED PARENTS WHO DONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT WHAT THEIR KIDS DO, AND SO IN SCHOOL THEY GET INTO DRUGS AND SHIT, AND EVERYONE SAYS, "OH CRAP, LOOK! THESE GAMES TURNED MY SWEET BOY/GIRL INTO A DRUG ADDICT/CRIMINAL."

it's YOU[parent]!!!

How come they dont use the ESRB?

For the same reason we don't use PEGI we have our own system and it's fine except for the lack of an RA18+ rating. Using ESRB would not solve that problem as anything above MA15+ would be slapped in the face. Lizardizzle is quite correct Atkinson (who can only lose his seat with a 26% swing against him which simple isn't happening in his labor happy neighborhood) wants to protect the kiddes. Put simply he believes parents are idiots who'll buy their kids 18+ games but not alcohol smokes, violent movies, etc

Hasn't Atkinson (and the rest of the attorneys-general) agreed to take the public's opinion into consideration? Dunno how they're gonna do it, but they working on it (very slowly).

If I'm not mistaken, they're targetting the developer of Fallout 3(Bethesda) because it's their Australia subsidiary or whatever which is making the game, right?

The only reason Fallout is even mentioned (notice the guys shirt) is that is what the latest game to be refused classification. I didn't know Beth had an Aussie division.

Ah, that's my bad: Got 2K Australia mixed up with Fallout 3 for some reason. Anyway, I don't understand it: Why don't they just get a rating system? Don't they have the ESRB system down under?

Also, these guys have to be conservatives. Tell me they are.

We have a rating system see the first post. Games have the same rating as movies the only difference is game don't have an R18+ rating and movies do. Fallout 3 was refused classification and therefore cannot be sold here because it has content (morphine injections, oh the horror) that aren't suitable for the highest rating MA15+ For there to be an R18+ rating all the Attorney Generals have to agree to it and so far they all do except one the SA AG Michael Atkinson. Atkinson's position as AG is determined by the government of the day, that person must be a member of the government. For him to loose his seat he must be voted out by the public but that'd require a 26% swing vote against him and that simply won't happen.

MA15+ (Not suitable for under 15s) - The content is considered unsuitable for exhibition by persons under the age of 15. Persons under 15 may only legally purchase or exhibit MA15+ rated content under the supervision of an adult guardian. This is a legally restricted category.

There are four classification categories for video games: G, PG, M, MA15+. Video games which exceed the impact of what the MA15+ rating allows are refused classification (RC). Games refused classification may be edited and resubmitted by their developers to garner an MA15+ classification.

People under 15 are not permitted to purchase or rent films or video games classified MA15+ unless they are accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

The content is strong in impact.

R18+ (Restricted) - People under 18 may not buy, rent or exhibit these films. The R18+ rating applies to film only -- any video games which rate higher than MA15+ are banned from sale.

The content is high in impact.

X18+ (Pornographic) - People under 18 may not exhibit, buy or rent films that have been issued this classification.

I only had a low res camera phone nearby.

I have always thought that the only way to give an idea to how silly it is to think that video games alter the thought process of people is to, in america obviously, every gamer that has no criminal record at all, march on DC. That would be such an insanely high number and give them ideas as to how wrong they are.

My Youtubings needs lubricant and larger bandwidths.

What you really need is drain cleaner, that'll clear those tubes.

I think that being a clueless fuckwit is a requirement for the job of politician.
