'avatar' noob question

hey guys. just wondering:

what program do you guys use to decrease your picture sizes to 50x50, so that you can change your avatar in the user cp on this site? (stop laughing at the back). or is there a way you can do this in windows?

Get a picture, open it with MSPaint (should come with every version of Windows). Then select all of the picture and reduce it to 50 x 50, and then save it.

At least that is what I do.

You can do it in Windows paint, open it, select it all, then go to; Options > Attributes and change width and length to 50. Then save as *jpg. Easy.

actually it doesnt want to work lol. i save the settings on this site, and its says 'the document contains no data'...hmm

i selected the whole image and typed in '50.00' for height and width under attributes, then saved as a jpeg. somethings gone wrong obviously lol.

i tried '50' instead, but then the site tells me that 'That image is too large. The maximum dimensions are 50 by 50 pixels.'

make sure that the white background in mspaint is 50x50 also ..

You could also try it with irfanview (it's freeware). Download, install etc. Open the image you want to resize, go to the Image menu and click the Resize/resample option. Now just enter 50 in the width and height boxes (see attachment). If the pic you want to resize isn't exactly square, uncheck the "Preserve aspect ratio" button (circled green in the attached screenshot).

It should resize to 50x50, and in better quality than mspaint would too. Now you simply "Save As" the file and select either JPEG or GIF as the filetype (gif is the easiest), and play around with the options there until you get a file that is smaller than 20KB. Chances are it will be smaller than that even on the default settings.

ok cool thanks it worked lol. it was a bit annoying as it kept on changin a 50 to a 66 for some reason. just got another image that was the same and it worked...strange.
