Back To Windows?????

hi everyone

well, i registered to this forum in search of some help, but reading the posts and threads so far i think its a general problem which needs to be fixed by valve..........but still i got a problem thats not mentioned here so far, so plz read it!

i also got problems with starting the game. i registered at steam (and the account definitely works), i start the game, the Valve-startscreen appears but after that, when it should switch to a blurred screen which says "loading data" (saw that at my friends house), i got the belove "back to windows"!!!!!...........

i got all the new drivers, my system is fast like hell and i NEVER had a problem like that. i installed it several times now and tried everything that i can think of.

so maybe anyone of you guys know something? though reading the other posts...........i still hope.

is there a windows fatal sound in the background just before it drops to desktop?

If there is then you may be getting the memory error .. for some reason the error msg disappears and is not always shown... maybe worth checking you have a sound assigned in control panel to the fatal exception sound event... hope that all makes sense best of luck

What's the fix

I am getting tons of crashes preceded by the windows fatal error sound. Usually it happens when loading, but it also happens randomly.

Basically, I am playing, it starts to load a new scene, I hear the fatal error sound and I am booted back to windows. No error screen is shown.

Is there a fix for this?

I, too, am getting kicked back to my desktop after a tone sounds.

Fortunately, I save my game frequently, but it's still a pain.

I'm running an Athlon XP2600+ (2.14Ghz) no overclocking
