Just a quick question...Is it a bad idea to use a digital camera for custom textures? Also why would it be?

Thanks for any light you can shed on this subject.

Well i do not see any problems with it.....i presume valve use a digital camera to source some textures.

I use a digi cam for textures and i produce wonderful results.

It's a fine idea... but pick your shots wisely, and be sure to spend time fixing the images up in photoshop. You don't want to take a shot that is overly influenced by the light at the time, because it might conflict with its placement in the map. You also want to make sure to tile it well in photoshop, which can actually be a kind of difficult job to do well.

You'd probably want one with atleast 3 or 4 megapixels, although the higher the better.

Id say 4+ .. it works for me.. its all about quality. higher= better
